any news on the 'new' flag in the recent posts page? Still not working. I will get the flag next to my recent posts, but not when there are new replies from someone else.
I updated some obsolete code there, but I am not sure if it has fixed it, partly because I am not sure what the 'new' graphic is for. Under what circumstances, precisely, should it show up?

When I post to a thread it shows up in the 'recent posts' page. If a person then replies to a thread that I've posted in this 'recent posts' page will have the 'new' flag next to it. If I visit that thread the 'new' flag will go away. I think that even if I don't visit the thread but end my session, then reload the 'recent posts' page the 'new' flag goes away.
Essentially its a way to see what threads I visit have new messages. The other options are remembering who posted last (and assuming they have not posted again) or getting the email. My brain can't handle the first, and the later makes for lots of uneccessary email activity (both for the servers and my inbox).
can the alt tags that show the first x number of words be added to the thread subject from the forum view? I like how Yahoo has this feature. I can roll over a story, get the first few sentances and figure out if its something I'd be interested in. This might save a lot of time for users as well as cpu cycles on the server if we could roll over vs click and go back.
Same on Firefox But no doubt it is "work in progress"
Another "nice to have if/when you get a chance" would be an arrow on the"My recent Posts" page which would take you to the last page rather than the one you posted on.
Indeed - the same as the one on the right on the normal forum boards. Would save some unnecessary clicking
Is something up with the reviews section? I posted a review last night on the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8, but it is still not showing up. On the reviews page, I am listed as the last posted review, yet if you click the arrow (to go to that review) it does not show up, and it does not show up if you navigate directly to the 28/1.8 page either.
Similarly, I noticed on 14L II review, that the overall rating changed sometime last night from 9.8 to 9.2 meaning that there was probably a 6th review posted that is being averaged in to the score, but also not showing up. If my math is correct, that reviewer would have given a 7 rating.
Will look into reviews. I haven't done anything to reviews, so it looks likely that any changes might be a result of the new file permissions that got set when Fred created a new sysop login. Keep me posted on any developments with that.
I am now ready to switch the uploaded image serving over to plain old url's instead of via scripts. This will have a number of effects, most of which I hope will be invisible. This is a fairly major change in architecture, and is an effort to speed up the server. It is also going to contribute towards images being served at the right size even before they have loaded. For the moment, only image uploads will know their size in advance, but I have a plan to learn external image sizes too. This way the bottom of a page will not jump every time an image loads.
Some of the files already uploaded do not yet have the right file extensions, so you may see a few images not display properly for a little while. It's only about 12,000 out of over 200,000, and I don't know what their chronological distribution is.
Thanks for being patient. It's for your own good! ;-)
I'm not sure if this is just me, but all of the sudden whenever I go off the main forum page into one of the subforums everything shifts to the left instead of centered like it usually is.
I am very excited to announce that the image size learning code is now in operation. What this means is that if you are the second person to click the 'end' link on a page which shows images, the browser knows the sizes of the images as soon as the page loads. The page will no longer jump downwards all the time as new images load, either from elsewhere on the web, or here on fm. It won't be perfect, but it will go 99% of the way towards solving a very irritating problem.

I just tried to send a PM without a subject and I got an error message with no option to correct the problem - thus my PM was deleted and I had to start over. Since the PM was a bit long this was annoying. Hopefully this can be corrected.
At some point you may tackle the "New" feature, one I used a lot in the past. I'd click on "My recent posts", and anything that had a reply since my last post would have a green "new" tag on it. I found it very useful.
Now all the posts in "My recent posts" have a "New" tag.
Not trying to change your priorities! I'm happy with the progress being made.
Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the "Reviews" code. I have to approve the reviews before they show up. That was a change I made a few months back because of abuse.
