ADORAMA IS NOT REPUTABLE. i DON'T EVEN THINK THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO ROLL THEIR BUSINESS. THEIR PROMISES IS BULLSHIT.
I am in a very pissed off mood now... Adorama.com made a really good Christmas present for me - they stole $331 from me and they stole 10 hours of my time. Here is the story.
1. On October 03, 2007 I ordered refurbed canon EF 85 1.8. and Canon EF 17-40 4L from them... A couple of days later, I ordered 2 Mack licenses for the lenses.
2. I received 85 1.8 but 17-40 never reached me. I spent quite a while figuring out what was going on. They never warned me or something. It turned out Adorama had UPS to return the lens back to the store.
3. OK, since the timing was important, I called them a week later and learned the order was still in the process of processing but they suggested they send me another lens in a week. Well I canceled the order. I also requested a return for one of the mack licenses, which I was granted. I sent the unused license back.
4. They refunded me for 85 1.8, which is $300 less than the one II was supposed to get refunded for, which is 17-40.
5. OK, I called them, and the agent told me that they could not transfer money back to my paypal account so they'd send me a check
6. Eventually, in the mid of December I recevied the check and deposited it.
7. Now, about the returned license. I had to call them 3 times just to get my money back for the unused license. The guy there would reply that he did not know which license I returned so he'd have to look it up... So passed over a month. Only on December the 19th I got my money back for the license.
8. Well guess what. Getting my $300 back turned out to be a worser problem.
9. ADORAMA CHECK BOUNCED last week, for which my bank charged me $31
10. I spent several hours on the phone with adorama support guys (3 people in total - always bouncing me to other agents). I realized their records are in a total mess-- nobody knew what was going on, and I had to repeat the story from the very beginning 3 times.
11. Every time I requested to talk to the manager, the manager was not available.
12. Eventually, 3 days ago, an agent gave me his promise that the manager would contact me within the next two days... Guess what. The manager never called.
13. The beauty of their professionalism goes beyond all possible -- one of the agents told me to get my money back from PayPal!!!! The PayPal account was showing Adorama withdrew the money.. So the logical question would be why on earth should paypal pay me?
Now, I am out of $331 and I don't know what to do. I am thinking about filing a court case against Adorama. I can't afford waisting my time and money on their bullshit.
It turns out that they are nice and cozy if everything goes nice and you pay your money... Dealing with them when you return is a totally different story.

I agree, don't buy from Adorama, Had some bad experiences with them. One time the charged me for 3 Canon MKII's that were retuned shipping box un-opened (long story) And did not want to credit my card back, Nothing like having $12,000 on your CC for stuff you don't even have, Thanks to American Express to get things worked out. One must ask why did I have to get credit card company involved? Yes, why.....I now buy at B&H or Berger brothers!! without problems!
There is no such thing as a California IRS and even if there was why would an income taxing agency care what you purchased with your money? From a long time California resident with lots of tax experience.

The governmental agency responsible for collecting state income taxes in California is called Franchise Tax Board. The FTB is also responsible for collecting a use tax for each eligible purchase made by a California resident:
In general, you must pay California use tax if you purchase an item out-of-state (for example, by telephone, over the Internet, by mail, or in person) and
The seller does not collect California sales or use tax
You use, give away, store, or consume the item in this state.
The collection of unpaid back use tax for each given tax year is achieved during income tax filing for each tax year.
I looked at a product once that Adorama had in stock. I had never purchased from them so I checked their feedback ratings on Yahoo or one of the other feedback sites. I never ordered from them after reading that and doubt I ever would.
I guess I'm one of the few (?) that didn't have any trouble. The item I bought was substantially less expensive than the same thing from B&H. (Probably a fluke to be that different but still, it was.) I've purchased in the past with no problems as well.
Having worked with a fairly busy retail order desk, I can imagine that things would get confused periodically on an operation that size. There aren't too many good reasons for them getting completely out of hand though.
I have bought many items from Adorama. The secret to quality customer service is to order through Amazon. Many of Amazon's photo items are supplied by Adorama. On those orders, I've gotten fast order fulfillment, and any questions or returns have been handled smoothly. On one purchase, I didn't get the answer I expected from Adorama's customer service. I completed Amazon's customer survey for the purchase, giving Adorama bad marks. Within 30 minutes of posting that survey, Adorama's customer service was on the phone asking me what they could do to solve the problem. Their customer service actually initiated the call. I make it a point now not to order anything from Adorama if it is not available via Amazon.

Adorama shows a Better Business Bureau plaque as part of the "BBB On-line Reliability Program." Fight it through BBB as part of your overall strategy.
I had a problem with a computer manufacturing company that screwed me out of over $1,500 a couple of years ago. After over a month of emails and phone calls to them, I filed a formal complaint with the BBB. It was quickly resolved, and I got my money back. So, File a BBB complaint.
Needless to say, I started threads on that computer manufacturing company warning people not to use them, and when ever I saw anyone even mention that company, I jumped in with my long winded story. The company is no longer in business. Not because of me, of course, but they were getting nothing but negative feedback on the computer forums.
I’ve only ordered from Adorama once. I got what I ordered, but the transaction and delivery was not as smooth as B&H. I don’t think one can go wrong with ordering from B&H.
