There's prolly something out there specifically for the 40D but if you can't find anything I know best buy carries these http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6197572&type=product&id=1067391594749. I'm sure u can probably find something more inexpensive but its an option.

Zoneshield makes a nice one that I'm using. It comes in two parts. One for the LCD on the back, and on for the screen on the top. Very nice. I use Zoneshields for all my devices.

I wouldn't even worry about it. What Canon already has sitting on top on the LCD screen is pretty tough. You'd have to do a lot to really mess it up. Most of the "protectors" I've seen just distort the LCD anyway.

Or, if you are worried about it (like I am) then get one. I think they're nice to have.

I llke Giotto's Aegis line of coated Schott glass protectors. Sturdy, scratch resistant and clear as all get out.

I dunno the "value" in protectors. Canon's OEM replacements are like $10.
I'm on my 12th DSLR and have never needed to replace one....but if it makes you feel better

Totally agree with Will. Why bother when the cost to replace the actual screen is usually much less than the screen protectors.

With the bodies I've owned, I've had a few very minor scratches, but nothing remotely close to the extent that the screen needed replaced.

Trenchmonkey - With so many bodies, you might not had any one in your possession long enough to gouge the LCD ...

Some folks prefer their white sneakers to remain that way.

There is an annoyance factor in getting one scratch, then two, on and on. To the point where the photographer takes the time to finally swap the cover out. A decent LCD cover avoids both the annoyance and replacement hassle.

Hey, it's a "UV" filter for the back of the camera, .

I just wanted to get one. I guess coming from Nikon I am used to the plastic screen protectors that come with them. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm with Trenchmonkey and Scott on this one.

I've considered using one at times, but never have. After seeing the difference it made on my PDA in regards to how different the screen was to look at, I decided not to put one on my camera LCD.

I have had my 20D for 3 years now and the LCD still looks new. Was I worried at first? You bet. But whatever those screens are made of is pretty darn tough.

I never put em on my camera either. I have a friend who has all the camera armor (sorry I HATE that stuff) and the screen protector and I think its useless. The cameras are built really tough.
