p.2 #1 · 1Ds mkIII great lenses vs hassy MF

Here are some shots taken outside at the Stanford Church.
The comparison -- Canon 1DsmkIII, 85mm 1.2 at f8 vs hasselblad H2/leaf aptus 65. 100mm/2.2 at f8 HC. Iso 100. The canon shot was upsized about 5 to 10% to make the subject a similar size for comparison. 100% crops.

Images were processed in CS3 in similar manner. Same amount of sharpening applied to both.

The bottom image is the H2/Aptus-65, right?

Yes, according to the EXIF data.
Actually, the Canon shot looks better to me!

I am not sure if there is something lost on the web posting but I suggest you download the images and look. The leaf has more fine detail albeit the differences are not huge. The one issue that bugs me is that the color accuracy is much much better with the leaf back. Moreover transitional tones are much better with the leaf.. and of course DR. There are so many tradeoffs here.

Very close, but the Leaf has more fine detail. It's "crispy" as they say.

Geez, I can't believe anyone doubted that the extra resolution on the new model was real. It's definitely going to outclass many lenses at many apertures, though.

Mark:

The resolution and DR on this is wonderful. It looks like quite a fun setup!

I don't know if it's my monitor or not (I doubt it since I'm using a decent Sony CRT), but I see some jaggies in the lower left stone filigree swirl/leaf patterns in the 100% crop with the Contax 35mm lens. Do you see this on your original file?

I need to go back and look but i remember i did see a few minor jpg artifacts after the last sharpening so perhaps i over did it a bit. I also admit the first set of files were processed before i realized that during a ppt presentation someone accidently hit my monitor profiles and screwed them up. I have since re-calibrated. I am using a mac laptop, which i know is not optimal but at least it is calibrated.
