Beautiful shot, Steve.I really like the play of light and the soft tones.
Greatings of the Season and Best Wishes for the New Year.

There are clearly some technical issues with this one, but it is so evocative of a trip I recently completed to the Peruvian Amazon that it it ranks as my fave of the year.
Very nice pictures in this post, this is one that i took about 3 weeks ago. i thought this was neat because it looks like he is laying his head on the branch. He was really just cleaning his beak off. i'm new to this site and am really pleased with people on this site. Being an amateur, i've been learning a good bit from reading posts and from people leaving comments on the pics that i post. Wishing everyone a Happy Holidays and great photo opportunities this coming new year.

Well 2007 isn't over yet so I still hoping my "Best of" hasn't been shot yet, but this one will be hard to beat.
This shot is special for me because this Peregrine Falcon, along with the great wildlife posts here and at dpreview, are what inspired me to start trying to shoot wildlife.
I first saw this Peregrine at the main beach in Santa Cruz, CA during a storm on New Years day 2006. It was sitting on top of a volleyball net pole dismantling a pigeon. It saw it a few more times during that year, but never managed to get a shot off. On March 3, 2007 I hit the jackpot. I got to watch Angelina (you can read the story about how I found out her name on my web site at http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php/v/nature-and-wildlife/2007/2007-03-03/) feasting for almost 15 minutes before she flew away. I got almost 200 shots off, and while I screwed up a bunch of them in the excitement, I did get some that I liked. This is probably my favorite.
I'd been trying to take a picture of a cardinal in mid-air for an hour or two when I finally got trigger happy and as soon as this one started moving his wings I pressed the shutter and was very pleasantly surprised when I checked it and saw this!
