Great images, Peter! I've had this lens for less than 3 weeks, but I do think the color and contrast is better than the 85/1.8 that I had. Here are a few samples:

It's only mythical if the owner thinks it is. Because of the ultra-shallow DOF, especially if you are using it with a FF body, your images can look a little stupid or ridiculous ..... not to mention that the slightest movement will throw the focus out. I have discovered that the best way to use the f1.2 aperture is to transfer the AF to the * button and use the AI mode and center focus point. That will increase your percentage of f1.2 keepers. Someone who is new to DSLR will probably think this is technical mumbo jumbo.
I have found manually focusing f1.2 on a 5D with Ee-S screen to be ridiculously accurate. AF has no chance against MF in this regard.

I disagree ... but let me qualify this - it depends on how good your eyesight is. I've used my old MF Zeiss lenses on my 5D and I could not get consistent accurate focus to save my life.
I think the AF on the 5D is extremely accurate and reliable.
Also you have a very beautiful gallery, great work there.

I agree that the 5D AF is good, but with the Ee-S and properly adjusted diopter, I can beat the AF on static subjects, every time. Not only this, but I get precisely what I want in focus, regardless of whether it lands under an AF point or not. Being able to frame the subject exactly the way one wants and simultaneously focus precisely makes AF seem oh so tedious. A hindrance.
These 85L v 85 1.8 posts just wouldn't be the same without MH2000 extolling the virtues of his 100 F2 and Trenchmonkey showing us that shot of the beer bottles
I am going 85 1.8 because there are other lenses I need to buy. Obviously I would love an 85 1.2, but I'll wait for it. The 85 1.8 will is a whole stop slower, but it is still a very fast lens. It is lighter, faster focusing. And most importantly, WAY cheaper.

Quite right. Mine is a super lens.
The 85 1.2 is a magnificent piece of glass, but only really needed if you are going to benefit from the 1.2, and that can be overdone IMHO. The effect is quite stunning if done well and the bokeh is supremely creamy, but you'd have to use it a lot to justify the enormous cost, (at least I would and I can buy whatever I like).
Absolutely! For the price of the 85L II, you can get 3 TERRIFIC Canon lenses:
85/1.8
100/2.8 macro
135/2.0L
