Spotted this riding the Metro Gold Line into Los Angeles, in the area of some of the old Southern Pacific yards along the Los Angeles River. Much of the old downtown rail infrastructure from the PE, SP, UP and ATSF is gone, some absorbed by Amtrak, some still in service, some by Metro rapid transit facilites. This is one of the old Southern Pacific signs. It would have been visible to passengers going to and from Los Angeles into the San Fernando Valley and then the coast and valley routes. I'm not sure it's visible except to Metro employees or train riders. I saw it when they stopped for an employee inbound and grabbed it outbound - through windows and fencing, in motion.
Craig, good catch. I am always looking for photo opportunities when riding the Metrolink myself. But that is a bit of history, faded, but still lingering.
There's also a faded, if not all gone/painted over to remove graffitti, sign under the old Soto St. bridge. It's where Huntington Dr. "ends" at Valley Bl. It was a PE sign advertising Mount Lowe!

O, that would be a cool capture IF it is not painted over to get rid of graffitti. Unfortunately, I am betting that it is probably covered up.
I'm assuming he was waiting for a signal...
Great shots - but I like the color version - i wonder how #2 looks in color?
I'm pretty much stuck either here in Norcross or up the road a little in Chamblee and I don't care for the angles... or else I'm getting tired of them. But here is one from Saturday morning while my wife had the dog at the vet across the tracks.
Out playing around with the 500 and a 1.4 hand held at the train station the other night. Heard the bells and horn and managed to get off a couple shots as this NS approached from the south.
