I would like to see a 7D/5D in a 40D body, FF with 16MP and perhaps 45-point AF, not critically important. A 5fps at least. I would on the other hand not like a 3" screen, but much rather a 2.5" with more pixels (the 40D has a 3" with the same pixel count as the 30D's 2.5").
Most of all though, I would like a FF camera body from Canon that is under $2000. Now Nikon has joined in with a FF digital body so, if Canon would do that with their next 7D/5D MK2 they would blow them out of the water!
Why not a 3" with a dramatic pixel improvement like the Nikon? If you were to use the pixel count of the Nikons on a 2.5 you'd be wasting pixels. That amount of pixels (900K~) would look stunning even on a 4" screen. I've seen 5" VGA screens that are unbeleivable.
I think ultimately if it was possible, a 4" screen at that resolution would be more than I could ever ask for. There would be at that point no reason to tether to the computer anymore. I'm sure the 3" nikon will still almost be good enough for this though.
This is one of the many huge reasons I would seriously consider switching to Nikon for now (I've always been so enthusiastically pro canon).
However I NEED full frame and I couldn't afford the D3 at this point so my 5D is going to have to do fine. The D300 is a STUNNING camera if you can deal with the crop.
