My compulsion with my new sound trigger has reached critical mass. You have no idea the mess about 2 milliseconds after this click. It took forever to clean up. I promise this will be the last shot with liquids I ever do as it's time to find something original to do with the trigger.
Steve Strawn is a friend of mine and his work has always rev'd me up so I had to give one of these a go. How he has so many amazing shots of this type is beyond me. The amount of work needed to create something like this (about 7 hours of my life for a total of 4 clicks of the shutter) is way more than I ever want to do again... Enjoy

I love the colors though, and the shading within the liquid is SO cool! Great lighting. Looks worth the clean up to me.

Thanks Jef. Getting the lighting on this stuff was hard at first. Thank god for Canon 430 flashes. I turned 6 of them down to 1/64th power (which in turn gives a flash duration of about 1/30,000th of a second) and it stops just about anything dead. It also allows for some great light fall off and creates dramatic stuffs when backlighting glass and liquid...
Worth every minute Dave. The backlighting on the liquid really brings it out doesn't it. So clean and crisp the colors, the liquid becomes sculpted light.
Very nice! I visited your website and it is fabulous! I also went to Steve Strawn's and he has some wonderful work as well. The patience of Job for sure!!!

Dave,
I was so awed by your photo when I first looked at it that I forgot to comment. It appears that you are having fun with your new toy. I would be interested in hearing how you trigger the six flashes.

Thanks,

Hey Robert, I use the Canon ST-E2 IR Trigger. Without it I couldn't do any of this stuff. :-)
This is just completely awesome. Love it. The three colors. Wonderful. The pre-spilling fantastic.
Great great shot. Only seven hours of your life, eh! Well you better make a big print of it, so you can look at it forever. This would make a fun photo for an uppercrust cocktail hangout.
I am still looking. I love the liquid. Fascinating. Especially the blue looks like it's tied itself in a knot at the top. What fun.
