I also hope the viewfinder is VASTLY improved. All they need to do, really, is make the viewfinder readouts and the manual focusing capability at least as good as they were on the 10D. The 20D and 30D viewfinders are disasters, especially outdoors in bright sunlight.
This is really not what I want from an Auto ISO feature!

• Tv: ISO 400 (will use 100 - 800 if required)
• M: ISO 400
• Scene modes (apart from Sport and Portrait): ISO 100 - 800
• Sport scene mode: ISO 400 - 800
• Portrait scene mode: ISO 100
• With flash (all modes): ISO 400
I think this feature is pretty useless unless it is user range configurable like the one found in Pentax.
I am guessing someone from Amazon is gonna be canned shortly for pre-empting Canon on their own product! I am also guessing that Canon was not planning on releasing it so soon. Sales are always better if the speculation is just in a frenzy....now everyone will have had time to make comparisons and let the "buyers excitement" dust settle a little. Initially, the word on the street was Sept 20th, then Sept 10, now Aug. 24th, and some pre-orders from Amazon likely pushed up that date considerably for Canon...
Yep, someone from Canon ate some Amazon head for breakfast lunch and dinner today! It was kinda fun watching the pages as they slowly populated on Canon's site. I've got a few different screen grabs from only a few minutes apart. My guess is the pages were written and hidden, and someone was just going in on instructions to make the pages and links active on the site.
Sorry, I don't care how good a coder you are - that much info in terms of content, product imagery, and product tour info via flash doesn't get written, designed, compiled, uploaded and published in less than a day! This material was siting behind the scenes while Canon planned on letting a fever pitch build knowing that many would rush to market anxious to buy. Now that fervor will have time to settle since the product specs came out far enough in advance of the product for people to sit down and chew on the info for a while (at least a week)...
Good thing I wasn't planning on buying until October (birthday)...as there -might- be some w/ buyers remorse selling on FM or elsewhere!

I rushed to get my 30D when it 1st came out, and not one thing ever went wrong with it. It's a great camera that worked perfect right out the gate. I expect the 40D will be no exception, and after all the hype, it's much more than I could have hoped for. I will be loving this camera.

Interesting! Looks like we'll all be able to get our hand on one of these sooner than we hoped. Canon Australia must have been sitting on these for quite a while now. I thought usually compared to the US we were a couple of months behind on shipping to Aus.
I suspect that the EF-S 18-55 IS isn't ready to ship wordwide yet. The 40D will ship body only and with the EF-S 17-85 IS "Enthusiast Kit" same as the 30D did. When the new lens is available for distribution I think it will then ship as a "kit lens".

yeah, it's really stupid beyond any imagining! oh well, knock off one 'feature' i thought they had finally added.
still pretty exciting (if AF really is better for sports, and for that matter stationary stuff too since i do get some weird results with 20D and many lenses).
woulda loved the microfocus adjust too. personally i think canon would've too since they would prob within a year be getting a WAY reduced numner of calibration requests.
50D will prob the complete killer with these little things finally fixed (but then again how could they get such a simple concept as auto iso wrong again?). maybe a few extra things with AF points and the much awaited much better high ISO. anyway, i can't wait three years for some of this other stuff, think i'll get the 40D. by time of 50D or 60D i should have lot more money flow and no prob to swap around as i feel like even to 1 series of 5dmkiii if needed.
anyway, yeah, unless i an reading the auto iso wrong, just ridiculous.
BUT still very, very excited about this camera!

just got my name first on the list at Camera Exchange in Melbourne
Although canon Australia list the 40D at $1,999, this morning they still had the 30D listed at $2299, despite it retailing for under $1500. If the 40D retail price drops to $1500-1600 i'll buy one instead of my planned 5D.
They list the 5D at $4999, they sell for $3200 locally!
I have alreayd tried the 40D. Happen to be in Tokyo at the moment for some biz meetings. Rushed to the Canon Showroom as soon as the 40D is official. Nice little toy. Its slightly bigger than 30D. Very much the same build. Very impressive 6.5 fps. The auto iso is also a nice feature.

You know what I love about this site? I love the fact that not one of us have our hot little hands on this camera and people are saying what's wrong about this camera.
I've got the Rebel XT, and had always thought about moving that to "backup" status. Especially with the traveling that I do, I'm always worried about not having a backup body in case my 2 year old and well beaten Rebel XT takes a nosedive in one of the *stan countries.
But I do admit - being able to sell my XT with the 28-135mm lens from the 40D kit is kinda sexy too. I'd be able to recoup these losses.
Or, what the hell. I turn 30 on Sept 15. This could be my present to myself.
