Yeah the butt whippin from the wife will go easier if I get one box from Amazon instead of two!
Yup, broke it to my wife earlier this evening. She was keen enough to ask what else did I need to go with it after I said that "I'm only getting the Body Only version" elduing to the idea that I was doing us a big favor. How did she know that Body Only never means Only a Body?
You know what im most excited about has to be the fact that they are releasing a kit with the 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS for only $200 more.
that lens typically sells for $300 - $350 used which means it will now be a lot easier to buy. Ive been looking into getting one of these lenses for the last little while since ive been shooting more and more outdoor concerts and i love the thought of having that extra reach over my 24-70 when f2.8 isnt crucial.
I would get a 24-105 but really i cant justify the cost of that lens when i wouldnt use it all that often either.
$800 for the wireless grip ... that seems like a total rip-off to me. When you can buy wirless routers for $50, I just fail to see why this item is priced at $800. Very disappointng! Also, Canon refers to this as an affordable option. Let's hope this is the most expensive of the two offered and the other one is considerably cheaper.

What!!!! Will have to be one of those "yep looks nice what a good idea" items that I won't be purchasing.... @$#$%$ & more expletives, are you sure that $$ is right & where is that advertised
I got in the pre-order line at Amazon about 24 hours ago. They listed it at $1299 for the body only (the only new lenses I really want cost more than a 1D Mk III, and they are not likely to arrive on the brown UPS truck anytime soon). All the order info still tracks that way when I check the status of my Amazon orders. It's a good thing that it won't be shipped until 20 September though, as that will make it easier on the budget.

Do we have a list of who's carrying the camera? It's not up on any retailers, even for preorders.

I agree, all I want is a way to wirelessly trigger the shutter. Some people may find all those features worth $800, but for me that would be crazy.
Attention non americans...
You see it pays to be nice to us and make trustworthy friends in the United States. So those of you who amazon will not ship to can have a friend ship it to you. But you dont like us so we cannot help you... especially you canadian guy. Thats right i saw you sharpening your hockey stick and curing your moose jerky.
I'm debating on going ahead and upping myself to the 40D. After a recent rent of a 5D though, i am trying my best to talk myself into a full frame. So i may be waiting on the 5DMII
Right, and the street price of the Nikon unit for the D200 is right at $600. I'd bet that the Canon unit settles in at a similar price point. What did you expect? Free? A wireless router doesn't fit to your camera body at all, never mind like a glove. It doesn't come with a custom battery, and a charger either. Linksys might sell a million of their latest WiFi device. How many does Canon expect to sell?
If the street price levels out somewhere in the $500-$600 range, it will be a worthwhile deal. Remember, it is a special market, and not everyone shares our enthusiasm for the product.

Currently I am in Tokyo and I have already got my hands on 40D in Canon showroom. I asked the Canon rep in the showroom about the sealing. Nope, 40D is not sealed.

No ... I'm not sure about the wireless grip price ... perhaps this information is a mistake. Try 2/3 of the way down this page:
I was wondering if one of the two wireless grips was way more expensive than the other. Perhaps one will be less. When Canon said affordable, I was thinking $300 ... not $800.
I think they list the regular grip as $270 ... that is definitely an item that I'm not getting. The 40D is already to large.

OK, ... I've just been programmed to react by the many previous "Who needs instant MLU control?" comments from those who believe that if they don't need a feature, nobody does.
Groveling apologies ;-)
Sorry if it's been posted, but since LiveView can be activated with one button push (the "Set" button i think), then wouldn't this be an instant MLU control, with the added bonus of actually being able to see the scene while the mirror is locked up?
