If it's an improvement in AF speed/accuracy over the 20D/30D I'm down. That's worth it
to me...lower noise at high ISO certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings either.
I still haven't seen any published HANDS-ON reviews, just the blurb in dpreview that everyone else seems to be referencing. Has anyone come across a review by someone who has actually TRIED one yet?
I guess the decision to go with the WFT-E3A or the BG-E2N is dependent on how much you value battery life versus the process of transferring images to your PC.
I like the idea of having the wireless transmitter, but not at the expense of giving up twice the battery capacity.
I wonder how long it takes for one of the generic companies to release their version of the BG-E2N?
I don't think many pro will be using 40D for their work in a studio or event, and the non-pro probably not going to pay $800 for this feature when $800 can get u many many gig of CF card or some type of portable storage device. I think this grip should have been better released for the 5D instead, which might be a good addition for all the wedding/event photographers where live feed slideshow to a projector will be a great money generating added service.
Has the 40D appeared on any of the retail sites yet besides Amazon? I just checked B&H, and it's not there yet. Just wondering if anyone will be discounting it from the start.

Can't speak for the US market but I can say quite a few UK retailers are offering it now and all are charging the same Ł899 price (which is scandalously more than you'll be paying in the US, but then us Brits are used to that )
Are you saying that the 40D has this capability? With the 10D, 1DMII, 5D, & 1DMIII I have been using the TC80N3 remote to do time lapse. Really great for sunsets.

I plan on getting it as it would be perfect for my timelapse work.
The Brits don't have to moan all alone, whole Europe can join in the moan-fest. The price difference is so big in Switzerland I could buy another 350D for that price, but then I need it, and if the store gives me a good warranty and so on I might go for it. We are paying around 1900 bucks.

No, although I assume they'll be forthcoming now the camera is out in the open.
I'm working on the basis that the reviews will come out before the stock hits the shops in any numbers so in the unlikely event its a lemon then I can cancel the pre-order

Could someone smarter than I explain the implications for dynamic range enhancement with this new body?
Also, I am not sure how excited to be about the new focusing system. Obviously its very early, but does this *sound* like it will be better than the 5D system of assist points, or not? The AF is the most frustrating thing for me with my 20D. I'm not sure if assist points are better than having 9 crosses, or what.
I am upgrading from my 30D and getting very excited. So much about this camera sounds so good. But I am not getting any younger and that large LCD sounds great and throw in the VF. I also like the idea of the ISO and the battery level in the VF. It's faster should have better AF yes I am excited. But I was excited going from the 20 to the 30 and still haven't regretted that move.
big improvements to me. I was about to get a markIII, but now, I am not so sure. Go from my 20D to a 40D and get a lens or two, and still have money left over, compared to getting the MarkIII. I think I will wait and see how the AF goes. I know it won't be on par to the markIII, but if it is better than the 30D and the 6.5 fps, it may save me about $3,000. Plus I can then go get the 17-55 2.8 that I would like to have.
The way I see it, there are three possibilities:
1. Al is a practical joker (if so, nice one);
2. Al uses something other than Canon;
3. Al fell down and hit his head.
Oh wait, I see he uses Canon gear. It's gotta be #1 now for sure.

Everyone's hyped about the 40D, but they JUST came out with the 30D for goodness sakes! Why the heck do they need a 40D? What the heck are Canon thinking? Makes absolutely no sense to me, so hopefully someone can shed light on this confusing product announcement...

My guess is that Canon is trying to make lots of money.
