Nikon D70 + Nikkor 80-200 AFS. A favorite of mine because I was in Colorado with my son on a trip to celebrate his graduation. We were on Mt Evans, not too far from the top doing some hiking. This Mt Goat saw me and turned quickly and in the process gave me this pose. It was very cold, windy, and the subject has very strong back lighting but it's a great memory of a father-son trip in nature. Bill

I like this a lot...more like inclined to a sympathy to the guy on the left...poverty really needs to be mitigated by starting on the highest heirarchy.

It's a wicked distortion with my sigma 50-500... i should send it in for repair. Or maybe i should just ditch it and buy a nikkor 200-400 instead. What would you do?
lol distortion I used to borrow that Sigma 50-500 back then and I can confirm that horible distortion at any focal length
Mr. Francois .... what did you do to carlos? Is that a new haircut in that shot there? He hardly looks like himself!
Thank you Pavel, It was a lucky shot. I was in my office shooting into my back yard through an open window, my youngest daughter yelled and spooked the dove.

Thank you Rey for your kind words. Funnily enough, I dont see the level of poverty (Disadvantage, yes) you see. I have spent a fair amount of time off the beaten track in VN, and Cambodia and New Guinea and I guess the basic social support of one another that exists in VN society, compared to say PNG tends to soften the impact.
Australia has a lot to answer for in PNG. We were good colonialists, but when we gave them independence we had not done enough for them to make the transition. Far too few educated people to step into the administration (mind you, the good ones were very , very good) with their economy being controlled by expat owned companies who still IMO are involved in out and out economic gouging.
On Bougainville, it is your Kiwi police who set the standard of how to relate, interact and help the people. (Stand tall bro and go the waratahs!)

Not sure that these are my favorites, but I like them a lot, and I like them in particular because they were taken with a D40 and the kit lens (18-55mm), on a wimpy super lightweight tripod that I had at the time, when all around me the place I was in was crawling with folks with superbly fancy equipment looking at me with amusement. But hey, I was there to shoot and have fun.

I really like these shots Nacho ! Where was the 1st one taken ? The colors in the 2nd one are just awesome! Excellent photos !
I am a sucker for a nice waterfall photo ...............
Thanks Wyatt, both were taken at the Japanese Garden in Portland, OR. A wonderful place. I was lucky to be there at the right time I guess. The canopy of the little tree, coupled with a cloudy white balance setting made for quite vivid colors.
And before I forget, I wasn't the only one using a D1 that day . While I was buying my ticket on the entrance, I saw a guy leaving with his family, around his mid 40's lugging a D1 on his shoulder...and I immediately thought, "hold on, this guy looks rich enough, why use a D1?" ...but immediately I concluded that his D1 is enough to document his family's outing .
