I wonder, just to confuse the trolls, you know the one that occasionally drift across from DPR, if we should suggest to Fred that this is renamed the Carlos site rather than Nikon.
Sort of in honour of our most popular subject and honary mascot?
here's something to warm up this thread...(my very first post)

Tim, this is true. Haven't been able to take pictures since my camera was stolen. But this will change soon.
Ouch! But what a chance to start over with that D3
Sounds a bit like "The Life of Brian"!! Lets look on the bright side of Life!
A D3 would certainly help

this is ridiculous. Ice storms across the US. frosts a 50mm deep in the Netherlands as evidenced by that pic of Carlos, and down under; this was shot in mid august.
We wouldnt want to boast, but....
nothing stellar this time (or any other time i hear ya think). but i want you to meet my camera salesman. Just look at his evil grin. he's looking at me and probably think: he's gonna buy... again... what a gearhead. That's what he must be thinking... right?
Anyhoo i should hate this guy, but he also is my neighbor. Sheesh imagine that a gearhead living next to a camera sales man... pfff huuhaarg life is so hard sometimes
Anyhoo i have no idea what i was doing in the shop, but i managed to make these two shots of him. Both with my Nikon D80 @ iso1600, the first: 55mm F2.8 1/400, the second 50mm F4.0 1/100. I used my flash to overcome the harsh light commin from behind...
Ray, he reminds me of Uncle Vernon from Harry Pooter . OTOH, winter shouldn't stop you from taking amazing photos, there are a lot of subjects and scenes to be made especially in winter ~ some examples: low fog on a suburban landscape(morning or evening{long exposures could be interesting at night}), close-ups of frost against a green background, backlighting a subject while blowing out "winter smoke", pairing up hot chicks in winter clothing with mistletoes hanging above there heads (oooh) etc, to name a few...

something I just realized afterwards...
the following picture has been taken in Africa, not in a zoo, I was WALKING in a natural park.... my wife called me crazy to take that picture. I just realized later, that it might have been a bit dangerous.... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/160/413802349_2a3e2695a9_b.jpg
