Here are the first pictures from my new Nikon D750. I have bought one to use as backup body for my two D4s this winter when I cover ice hockey. It will spend most time in hockeynetcam box. The first attempt to capture the northern lights, but not especially good try. D750 with Nikon 24-70 f2,8.
Here's the tighter 180mm Nikon version of the shot from tonight, posted Canon 100mmL macro version on the Canon 2015 Summer thread. Big difference in the "look" I produced between them. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1368023/78#13192186
Contemplating this lens but I shoot in the sun or with the sun just outside the frame so much I'm worried about the flaring.
I shared your concern, so I did a series with the sun just touching the front element obliquely (first shot) through a series of three with the sun actually in the image frame. I didn't do anything to try to block the sun in the first shot. So it could have been better -- that's a very strong side lighting effect!
I consider it less than the ghosts produced by the Canon 17TSE, which I'm a big fan of otherwise. As far as "flare" (the overall veiling-type) goes, there is very little, far below average unless you get some very expensive lenses. It's going to be hard to find a 11-16 element UWA that doesn't produce ghosts.
My skepticism has been set aside on this lens' IQ -- it really is very good, and can't be beat for the price, new or used.
My lens has unreliable AF (I'm sure this is an issue specific to this lens), so I got a killer deal of $325 for the MF-only lens. Perhaps I will see about getting it fixed. But it does outstanding in MF, and holds very well up to f/13 before softening. F8.0-11.0 will be where I plan to use it seriously.
