Ah, what a perspective Endre!
You finally managed to become an integral part of your violin! (I know you didn't really mean the label)
Good for you, that’s where your heart belongs, inside it!
Beautiful and original with an excellent composition and super sharp.
Is that person looking at you from the outside

Cute! Glad your computer is off the fritz. Looks like you took a lot of time creating the violin. I am guessing it is not the Strad Ok let's have a contest to see if we can guess the real Strad. I am also guessing that isn't you looking "in". Nice work, Endre. As usual. I am guessing this is a finalist for sure.

OK, I'm in for the bet. This is not a disassembled Strad. I am very curious how this was made. Anyway, one heck of a nice shot of the eye and lashes, like crystal. Concept is wonderful.

Hello Endre,
I guessed this would be your shot from the thumbnail image. Very clever, and perfect executionI The wood grain and the eyes are both nice and sharp. A great take on the WA. .... I bet this isn't the back from your Strad, is it.

Thanks so much, John! So glad you like it! Yes, I finally managed to shrink myself down sufficiently to fit inside the F hole. At that size, though, it was a long drop to the bottom. :worried: That's Csilla, who was a bit concerned that I might not make it out. .
Fond regards,
Endre

Thank you, Jane! I'm so glad this tickled your fancy! What do you mean I " took a lot of time creating the violin"? I didn't create that violin - that's the real inside of a violin. But it was a bit of a challenge getting the camera down inside. You are right, though, it isn't the real Strad.
Fond regards,
Endre
PS - Oh oh! :worried: It's the "Kiss Of Death" predicting a finalist...

Thanks so much for the kind comment, Christian! Glad you enjoyed this. Did I say anything about thjis being a contest But you are right - this is definitely NOT a disassembled Strad. I'll allow for some more mystery to build up before i reveal exactly how this was done. it was actually qutie a task.
Fond regards,
Endre

OK, I knew you'd come up with a fantastic idea and great execution!
Congratulations!
The missing ribs make it clear that the belly is off the instrument (and is it a viola or a violin; looks like a pretty wide f-hole?), but I'm just being a nudge. The illusion is excellent.
Know what's really neat from my perspective? The way that Csilla's eyebrow appears in the circle. Love it!

Missing ribs? What missing ribs? What is that up at the top of the shot?
So glad you like it, Jess, my friend! (But no missing ribs. ) It is, though, a violin and not a viola.
Fond regards,
Endre

Endre,
This is vintage Strad! Wonderful illustration of contrasts, with the smoothness of the skin and clarity of the eye against the roughness of the unfinished wood. Certainly a different perspective, as well. I, for one, have never been on the inside of a musical instrument before, except perhaps my grandmother's piano a few years back.
p.1 #15 · p.1 #15 · # 250 What Year Was This Violin Made?
Thanks so much, Robert! Your comments are always so kind. I did think about the contrast between Csilla's skin (completely unretouched in any way, I might add...) and teh rough interior of a vilolin. Nobocy bothers to make the insides pretty. Most people hve never even seen the inside of a violin let alone to be inside one.
Fond regards,
Endre

Well Endre....you've finally ruined a perfectly good instrument for this WA.
Good thing the shot is great to make it all worthwhile! I really like the clarity
super job

I was waiting and waiting for you to post and BAM here you come once again. Just superior to the assignment, very clever, imaginative, well exposed and composed, need I say more? This is just wonderful and you never let us down!! Fantastic

Doesn't make sense for the inside of the ribs to be varnished, so you've got me stumped with your little visual conundrum.
What indeed is that in the upper right?
I've seen many violins with the top removed, but never with the back removed and the top in place on the ribs.
Honey, I shrunk the violinist-photographer!
Maple this one just needed some "sprucing up"?
Who would dare to separate the maple components while leaving the spruce glued and waiting to crack...
I know, Fantastic Voyage 3!
p.1 #19 · p.1 #19 · # 250 What Year Was This Violin Made?
I assure you, Jess, the inside of the ribs are NOT varnished. They appear darker due to their angle versus the light source. In the upper right are simply the ribs of the violin where they belong You can see the lining strip if tyou look closely. As to the top being attached to the ribs - you're absolutely right - the top (belly - to use the technical term) always comes off first and the ribs are almost never unattached to the back. (I'm not writing this for you, Jess, buecause I know you know all this...) The belly - being made of a softer wood (usually spruce) than the back and ribs (usually hard maple) is glued on with a very thin rabbit hide glue lest it crack when the belly and sides expand at different rates due to temperature or humidity variations. Consequently, the belly is easily popped off for repairs using a flat knife.
Every time I post a violin- related photo I wind up giving a little lesson in history or construction. What fun!
Fond regards,
Endre
It doesn't make sense for the inside of the rib to be varnished, so I must admit I don't know what you've got in the upper right of the picture.
Don't know that I've ever seen a violin with the top attached to the ribs and the back removed, since the top is usually the first thing taken off, even when the back needs repair.
Maple this one just needed some "sprucing up", so to speak?

Thank you so much, Steve, my friend! I'm delighted that you like it! I once posted a mediocre photo and Robert immediately gave me a dressing down for inferiour work so I can't afford to do anything less than my best . i do get inspired when there is an opportunity to use a violin in a shot, though.
All best wishes,
Endre
