I had a scare like that once when my 20D came back from Canon servicing. Not sure that this is supposed to be the default setting, though. I'd expect the default setting to be 0: Disable.

Sorry, maybe I didn't write that clearly enough. I meant, I wonder which SD card(s) Rob Galbraith was using to get the faster than CF results. I sent him an email - hopefully he'll reply.
So I heard back from Rob Galbraith regarding SD cards in the Mark III. In a nutshell, it looks like none of the SDHC cards they've tried yet are capable of speeds faster than 5.5 MB/sec. Yet, the 2GB Extreme III SD is capable of around 14MB/sec...
His opinion is that if you want speed and greater than 2GB storage, CF is the only option so far. He indicated that an update to the CF/SD performance database will be coming soon.

Thanks for the followup, looks like what I was getting, and then only when low-level formatted.
Starting to look like the Mark III is a wonderful camera, with a few BUTS applied.

The new version ACR version 4.1 has added sharpening tools similar to Photoshop USM. It now has four sliders.
Amount
Radius
detail
masking
Oh, wow, it might now actually be useful. Hopefully Lightroom will get this update soon and I can start using them again. The old single slider was a joke IMO.
it looks like the 1D III needs a firmware update to address a few issues.
Arrived today. After charging the battery was too late to go anywhere and shoot so here is a couple of in camera jpgs @ 3200 ISO shots in the backyard, no NR. Pretty much as others have shown, in-focus area is exceptional and the OOF areas aren't bad either. Blue Angels coming to town this weekend, will get a real test then.
First pic with RAW converted by PSCS3 ACR and 50% smart sharpen. Note the detail in the screen on the little birdhouse on the tree that wasn't really visable before. I didn't want to like ACR 4.1 and was hoping Adobe would include the MKIII in an update to CS2 but looks like I'll be a buyer when my trial ends.
