I am sure that Jeff has thrown his hands up in the air by now and said to Fred, "Well I tried". How about we cut him a break and actually try to follow the rules he established for this thread and get some actual hands-on feedback from those who have used the camera.
Yeah, this is an exclusive club.
The firmware in the camera is 1.08. Has any new camera started that high before? If the problem was all software then there may be a lot of cameras in June.

Mark III RAW files are Windows-only.
Eek. Thats not true!
You can decode mark III raw files on all platform using Dave Coffin's dcraw utility. DCraw has had MK3 support for months now.. since the same day the first CR2 files hit the internet.
DCraw will seem a bit clunky for mac users since it's a command line app.. but it's quite powerful and it's minimal interface makes it easy to use in batch. There are a couple of nice GUIs for it for Linux, .. but as far as I can tell there are no current GUIs for OSX.
In any case.. I got my MK3 today. Live view is far more impressive than I expected. ... no more OOF macro photographs! :)

Does anybody know when Apple Aperture will support MK III RAW files?
The next RAW support update (sometimes embedded in the OS updates IIRC, sometimes separate) or the next Aperture update will be likely to add it. OS X 10.4.10 is currently in beta, the final version will likely add it. Someone I know might just happen to have 10.4.10 running right now, and might have just been able to open the Mk3 CR2s in preview... and aperture...

I just downloaded the Mac version. So how does that work?
I ran the CR2 files through Capture One 3.7.7 and all images seem to have a white bar right across the bottom of the image.
The bar does not show up in the C1 preview or when shooting JPEGs. Presumeably this is a C1 problem but I have attached the RAW image here if somebody can confirm it for me.

I seem to recall this being a "feature" of some very early versions of C1, or maybe some very early versions of some cameras' support in C1. Mind you, it's very early days with the Mark III in C1 — it's not even listed as supported yet. They just slipped that undocumented "preliminary support" into v3.7.7, and it's nice to have even if it's not 100% ready for prime time.
I have just checked the Really Right Stuff B57-L D bracket that is the camera L bracket for the 1D Mk II, and it does not fit the 1DMk III. There was an early report from a show that indicated it would fit, but it does not. The mounting screw is in a different location, and the new Mk III body is also slightly wider from front to back. I will now need to wait while RSS works its magic. I also wonder if they will try to accomodate the wireless adapter with an L bracket, which will be a tricky thing to do. My guess is they will do an L bracket for a Mk III without wireless, and then do an non L bracket that allows the wireless adapter to be mounted.
well, i managed to open taht RAW file in zoombrowser 5.6 that came with my 5D utility CD... i must say the noise on that picture at iso 3200 seem like my 5D iso 1600 or a little better.
I converted the clock shot in DPP and no white bar. I also converted in C1 LE, and got the same white bar at the bottom of the shot... looks to be an issue with C1

How's the focusing screen in the 1D-III? Isn't it different than that in the 1D-II?
I like using the Ec-S in my 1D-II . . is the 1D-III stock screen going to be to my liking, or do you think I'll still want the Ec-S?
I think you'll still want the Ec-S. But Live View may have uses too. I was using it with the 85L and at 10x I could focus very precisely. It's very cool. The LCD is high quality and shows fine detail. It's going to make focusing tilt lenses precise, especially on the 1DsIII.
