Interesting, someone over at POTN Cancounted it with new cancount and it's 113K

Wonder if old cancount has an issue measuring correctly exposure info?

Anyone know roughly what a new shutter is going to run me? 70K more shots then I thought it had almost 3X what it was

Any further thoughts guys? I really want to make this right for Tim one way or the other.

I'm really confused though... if Cancount is only good up to 65k, then how did Chris's version return 104088 on that other camera upthread? And what about PS CS2, which agrees with Cancount on my camera?

It's the old cancount (free or shareware) version that's good to 65k.

Well I must say this is all very strange. If what Tim is saying and I saw the screen shot at POTN. Than most cancount quotes may be wrong, depending on the version. and with what Lars said about not going over 65XXX while mine sure does

I remain utterly confused. PS CS2 gives the same 47k count.

Anyway, Tim and I will work this out.

Thanks all.

Here's a free version of CanCount.

Yeah, but teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day. ;-)

This is driving me to drink...

You know this would be SO much easier if canon just put a damn "option" to see the shutter count in software and made it unchangable?

Ariel's version gives 113xxx, and my version gives 47xxx. But what is strange is both give 104xxx for the other pict

p.2 #10 · Can someone cancount this for me?

I just tested the above-linked program on my 1DIIN and it was correct (47,281) I took the camera's first ever shot.

20D, it told me I've taken 1,867,579,614, which is a tad off from the 34,574 (±150) I've actually taken.
10D, it told me I have no shots on the camera, even though I took at least 1000, and who knows how many by the previous owner. Same for the 300D, it tells me i have 0 shots on the body, after I know there were over 8000 on it.

It also tells me the last shot i took on my 1D original was 2660 or so, which is what I've been told by others.

Looks like a good new alternative for 1D series....and utterly useless for non-1D series owners as usual. Well, unless you want to seriously undervalue your 20D (only 1 billion shots!), or overvalue your 10D/300D (one owner - a grandmother who only took it to church and never actually used it!)

47675+65536 = 113,211. The counter rolled over once, and it's now at 47xxx after it's first rollover. Why it's not showing up correctly and differently in 4 different apps is beyond me.

The program linked to also claims the 113211 shots.

0093 = 28, 1, 47677, 3, 12, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

Which by the description means, 1 set of 65536 + 47677 = 133,213.

So either that method does NOT work or cancount is wrong.

The actual specification of the data that Canon puts in into the EXIF header, including field 0093, is known: The second and third number make up a 32-bit integer, split in 16-bit and 16-bit fields. So, whatever you get from software, you know that the manual method (in this case it rolled over once and it got to 47677 since then) is the correct one. 133213 it is, for the EXIF info above.
