p.1 #1 · 16-35L slow focus?

Is it me or is the focusing on the 16-35 slower than my previously owned 17-40? The USM is sweet, but I swear it just takes longer to find the spot - does a bit of searching before it's dead on.

Sure I get that. It is fast no doubt; however, have you used a 17-40 before?

I don't think I ever had my 16-35 hunt. it is super fast. I dont think there is much difference as far as speed with the 17-40 and I have owned both.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind and do a few tests. I did recently go from a 1dmII 'back' to an original 1D because the mII had to be serviced, that may be the source of the issue.
I'll have a 5D in about three days and will know for sure at that time.

Mine focuses fast enough, but that is not difficult with a wideangle zoom.

At 16mm mine would hunt. 35mm it was fast. Always spot on, though. And mine was Calibrated by Canon CPS.

I upgraded from the 17-40 to the 16-35 and didn't notice any downgrade in the focusing.
