p.1 #1 · Info Needed: Izumar P.L. filter

Can anyone give me any information about Izumar filters? I have the chance to pick up a 72mm. Pol. filter quite inexpensively.

All it says on the filter is

IZUMAR P.L. 72mm has a small triangle and then the word Japan

I have not had much luck looking for it on the internet. If there is anyone who could give me some info on it or where to look I would appreciate it. I would also like to be able to tell if it's a linear or circular polarizer.

Thanks!
R. Simmons

Never heard of it. If it doesn't say PLC or Circular, then it's probably linear. There are lots of filters you can buy inexpensively, and that's what they're worth. Are your pictures worth more to you?

You can determine if it is a linear or circular polarizer by looking through it.

izumar seems to be one of those ebay type products. it is most likely a "branded" product with no verifiable manufacturing history or quality reference. it is one of those: you pay your money and you take your chances type items.

not with my money though and i don't suggest with yours either

by just looking through it no you cannot. they are 2 different methods to reach the same conclusion/effect but with certain optical devices there can be side affects on certain types of AF detection systems
