Ah Shucks!!! I was hoping the cat would not be let out of the bag until after shipment of the 1D3. Now, I have little chance of pre order list members ahead of me on the list cancelling their order like DavidP.
Perhaps, another set of rumors needs to be started to rattle prospective buyers (at least preorder buyers ahead of me on the list that I am on). How about this...a little birdie I know who is well connected in the pecking order of things said that the 1D3 is a hazard to users' health. It causes premature hearing loss because of the rapid fire 10fps shutter speed. Also, it causes macular degeneration because of the 3" LCD screen everyone will be using in Liveview and all the pixel peeping at high ISO trying to find the nonexistent noise that is supposed to be there.......Show more →
Gosh, that's awful! Where did you hear this? Is it a legitimate source? Thanks for the heads up because I am near the top of the list with my dealer and I would have been totally screwed if I hadn't found this out before buying the camera. You would have thought that a big company like Canon would have checked on the health impacts first. Guess I'll just keep shooting with the 20D for awhile longer.
The information is from a birdie that was being photographed by one of the few lucky individuals testing a preproduction model of the 1D3. She said that while she was posing for the photog, she saw him reach up to his ear in agony after shooting several 10fps bursts. Afterwards, the photog couldn't find his way back to his car apparently blinded by all the chimping he was doing while shooting her in flight.
We really need to warn others (preorder list members especially) of the tragic consequences this new Canon flagship camera will inflict on users. Spread the word...

Abandon all hope and cancel the orders. Not only will you be saving yourself but it will drive the price down leaving more money for those left behind to dispose of their loved ones who failed to heed the warnings in an appropriate fashion.
Damn it, is it out yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I don't think the tester has a clue what he's doing, but I do like the tonality of the 1D3. I'll wait for a noise comparison from a more expert test. I have developed a belief that if the tester doesn't get white balance and exposure, what else doesn't he understand?
He was not really testing as such, just posting a few snaps he had time to take with a friend's camera - personally I welcome this sort of thing, and don't think we should expect a rigorous test every time.

But at least 50% of the people posting don't seem to be able to comprehend that. There are plenty of pros, and amateurs as well, who have never done a focus test, brick wall shoot, graphical analysis of noise components at every ISO, etc. The individuals posting early shots are doing so as a favor, not because it is their job or responsibility to photograph a particular subject matter within specific parameters some pixel peeper wants to see.

Chuck is a good guy, my point was that it's got to be a little hard on him watching many of us get a little goofy waiting for this camera. It's a good idea to at least try and keep your customers happy even they are all a bit irrational!

A few, a little goofy, a bit irrational? I think you truly understated that after following this thread. Funny thing about forums, though they are a wonderful source of information I find that many, OK that might be a broad brush, but it seems many are the hypochondriacs of that product. Now maybe it is passion but I have seen it in diesel trucks, audio/ home theater and here. I mean people taking apart 10k processors and rewiring to see why it was doing something test it and play with it more. Engineers and those that stayed at a holiday inn's giving WAY to much information on why something might be doing something... sheesh I am sorry I am venting. Seems that some just cant buy a product and just enjoy it. Take a picture of a brick wall.. ha I have much better subjects than that

This is not also a expert test but did you see this ISO images from the 1D3?:

I took the liberty of lifting the following posting from dpr...
"This is copied from the Digital Wedding Forum posted yesterday.
Canon U.S.A. is still on target to begin shipments of the EOS-1D Mark III to its authorized dealers by the end of May. This is the same information we supplied to dealers on April 16th, and there have been no changes in our plans since then. "By the end of May" is as close as I can say for now. Shipments may begin sooner than that (they have not begun yet in the U.S.A.), but they most likely won't begin any later than that. Again, this is U.S.A. information only. Shipment schedules in other markets may differ.
As I am sure you can imagine, demand for this camera is going to exceed available inventories for an unknown period of time. As a result, the camera will initially be "on allocation" to authorized U.S.A. dealers. It's difficult to say when a specific dealer will receive merchandise, or how many cameras will be shipped on a per-dealer basis. The basic idea is to spread the distribution as fairly as possible according to the orders we've received. We expect to receive shipments from the factory in Japan regularly, and shipments to dealers will be scheduled accordingly.
Please understand that as a member of our Marketing team, I have no way of checking the allocations or shipping schedules for individual dealers. That's a Sales issue, so my best suggestion is to keep checking with your dealer for updated information.

Just imagine a crate load of 1D bodies sitting on a pallet!

It's not just products — it's whatever subject people get online and discuss with those of similar mind, whether it's politics, religion, weird pastimes of all sorts — you name it. And it provides a very strong feedback loop for the brain's cognitive dissonance circuits. I have a developing theory that it may ultimately destroy the earth. ;-)
