Oh and to followup with my battery concern - Adorama has it listed, but not in yet. My local shop also has it listed now too.
I swear this morning B&H had it listed as well, but in stock. Now it's not even on the site. Well that makes me feel a little bit better - except did they make two batteries for every Mk III yet?
"RESULT Sport and Actionfotografen become the fingers after the EOS 1D Mark of III lick. That quick extremely system convinced not only by the high image frequency and extensive picture sequences, but also by many further highlights. In addition belong an easy handling, despite that Mass at adjusting functions, set UP corrections and user-defined parameters remains visible and in addition through their structure in line with standard usage very fast is feasible. And naturally the image quality of the camera is to be emphasized, those with 14 bits depth of shade very large picture dynamics reaches and in sharpness and colour likewise each requirement for professional becomes fair. Only deficiency becomes for some Photographer perhaps the size of the Image sensor its: But with a focal length factor of 1,3 it is now real no longer far from the full format removes. And not least become Canon EOS 1D Mark of III also with their Price of accurate 4.307, 59 euro the competition the life again a little make heavier"
Sorry for errors (automatic translation) but you can catch the idea.
About the equipment note, it looks like they have penalize not to be the 1Ds or a FF sensor body !!

I understand the other three but what do you mean by equipment?
IT looks like an overall note biased on the technical characteristics of the machine. Sorry but I can not specify more, just my guess as I am spanish and I don΄t understand German, I am just using the google translator. May be one of our german or dutch colleagues can help more !!
Anyway look my note above at the final ... NOT TO BE FF sensor !!
Ok just got a chance to REALLY play with the pre-production model at Samy's in Los Angeles. Saw a 19"x13" print of the MKIII@ISO 6400. Looks like the original 1D@ISO 800-1000 At ISO 6400, I could get 1/250-1/500 @f4-f2.8 inside the store. Another feature not mentioned is; hidded within the menu: the battery meter actually showed the graphical representation & a # showing the percentage of juice left. Not to also mention the shutter actuations count (not to be confused with the file number) right below the battery info. Didn't have a chance to calibrate the Mark III with the 16-35 II since I was a bit boggled by the menu changes(which I've mentioned before, in the "told you so" post here a while back, a bit confusing and will take a while to get used to). Nonetheless, I AM DEFINITELY SOLD ON THIS CAMERA!!!
The 580ex II is DEFINITELY a SWEET addition to the MK III since I can now take pics in mud, rain & snow, sand storms, humidity, etc. w/o worrying about the flash being shorted out (with the MKIII's capabilities, I doubt if I'll even need flash 80% of the time.)

^ u think that samys model is theres to demo and eventually sell, or is it a canon model traveling around 'on loan'?
Did samys give you an eta?
No the preproduction demo is not Samy's but belonged to one of the Canon reps. The demo is only there until Sunday. They said the Mark III will be out by end of May/early June for the 1st batch and yes, not every pre-order will be fufilled. Here's also another bad news (I hate to be the messenger of doom & gloom but here goes....): I was told that there is a possibility of 6 months of backorder just to fill the current pre-orders and the already long waiting list. At Samy's for example, there is about 1500 on the presale & waiting list at the moment. At places like Adorama & B&H, there's a lot more by now. My safest bet would be between August-October before the dust settles and production meets up with the demand.
In addition to what was stated on my last posting: I did find a few bugs on the pre-production model. One was the sensor cleaning thing during startup, it seems to hiccup a bit during startup. I've only used it for a few minutes so I can't really get into the full details of all of the things that were wrong with it. Being familiar with the 1 series helps a bit as far as going through the menus, but this is a pretty significant change since the placement of the menu & buttons are different from what I'm used to. For example, I'd have to use the joystick to navigate through the tabs. Exposure compensation is done through the +/- button on the LCD and not by using the jog dial. the "set" button starts the MLU and at times, initiates MLU when I don't want it. This is not good because with Live View, you'll have more accuracy with the "Hail Mary" shots, but if you do that too often, your battery life will be reduced from 2200 something shots to 300 something shots (consumer P&S battery life anyone). I also saw something about the "favorites (shortcuts)" tab where you can customize it with the most used functions.
I'm pretty sure Canon will have a firmware update for it on or before the release of the production model. I didn't really have a chance to customize it to my liking so I can't really say much about the ergonomics of the MKIII (I customized the heck out of my MKII N), but based on the stock settings, I REALLY hate it. I'll go back there tomorrow and play with it a bit more since I have to exchange something and I'll let you guys know more about it. If you want to know anything specific, post it here and I'll go check it out for you.
Also gone is the Master/Slave lever near the hotshoe mount on the 580ex II due to the weatherproofing. You'd have to hold the zoom button down & turn the jog dial to access it. Personally, I'd prefer the idiotproofing of a physical lever as opposed to a software switch, less room for errors and malfunctions.
On the 16-35 II, I STILL don't understand why Canon chose to have an 82mm filter thread since the diameter of the front element remains the same as the original. Yes, the annoying flower petal lens hood appears to be big & bulky (if not bigger) as well. Didn't have time to calibrate the lens (or know how to as of today) but I'll give it another shot tomorrow. Using the 24-105 on the MK III @ISO 6400 is amazing at f4 & 1/250 inside the shop (Does this mean no more need for a 2.8 lens).

Dunno if this has been posted before, but I certainly can't be arsed to look back through 190 pages to find out.
Anyhow, I thought the 'Masters of Light' guys comments were interesting - and they seem to be the only ones to have got their hands on one yet.
