So, any body know what the latest is about when this thing is going to ship?
Some place at HK says is going to received it by May 15th ??
The most currently answer and also by Canon Japan is at the end of May; but quantities are limited.
The overall expectation is to be regularized something around mid June/ first July (hopefully).
Yup also confirmed here for early June (EXTREMELY reliable source) as well but will not be available for everyone who is not already on the long waiting list. The supply & demand should level out around July/August. CPS or not, there is no "special privileges" everyone gets a fair chance to get one.
My May 10 date has been changed to "soon". Like in May.
If the only problem was autofocus, the fix is likely in software. If that's true, the first batch is likely small (sent as soon as a minimum quantity is ready), followed by faster than normal shipments. IF camera assembly has continued uninterrupted by whatever is done to fix the problem.
I find it very odd that Canon gave out review cameras with a know significant problem. This is odd behavior from our prideful friend, and I don't know what it means.

Talked with a huge pro dealer here in Denmark yesterday and the last he had heard from canon ppl that was not allowed to say anything (his words was end of may
I have this lens on order at kamerashop.dk, and they confirmed today that there is no news regarding when I can expect delivery. Nobody seem to know anything in DK <-( .

You're also posting items for sale in your profile which is against the rules. Especially bad since you've chose not to pay FM's fee to sell.
Busted! I guess!?! I re-read the forum rules link above and didn't see any mention of this rule. But I removed the reference from my sig and subscribed to the annual image upload for good measure.

From your sig, it looks like you could afford to buy one or two (for every day of the week) to beta test yourself...
I could easily afford to buy one the first week it is out but why would one want to beta test this thing? Just sit back and wait a couple of months. This camera has more new technology than anything Canon has released in years. Why anyone would be eager to jump on the first batch before it is proven is beyond me. Bleeding edge hardware so often has major bugs. I prefer to stay on the cutting edge but not the bleeding edge. I beta test all kinds of new bleeding edge hardware at my job but that is a job in and of itself. I consider it no fun but something that has to get done. But for tools I rely on or toys I rarely go bleeding edge. Why would you want to be the first person to run Vista - what a mess? Or buy the first generation HD format DVD player the first week it is out? Or any high technology gizmo that is bleeding edge? It doesn't pay to be too early of an adopter. Better to stay a couple of months behind the curve.

Because I will likely be capturing superior shots than you, that's why!
Is there a risk in being early? Yes, some. Is Canon's track record pretty good, yes again IMO. Am I willing to take the risk ... OH YES!
I would posit that Canon did not release the 1Ds3 at the same time as the 1D3 because they wanted to field test all this new technology first before releasing a Camera as expensive as the 1Ds3. If that theory is correct and Canon is too nervous to put their money where their mouth is then it gives me pause. When they ship the 1Ds3 I'll know Canon feels their new technology has passed from bleeding edge to cutting edge.

If something needs to be replaced in the first run, Canon replaces it. First run 5Ds needed a board replaced. They did that and cleaned the camera. No big deal. In the meantime, I had a 5D to use in the fall of 2005.
Name a Canon dslr that had major problems on introduction. What are the odds that the 1DIII will be a disappointment when production models are reviewed and tested? The HDDVD analogy is spurious. If a first gen HDDVD was a critical tool and I knew it wouldn't be replaced for three years, yes I would buy it. But a 1DIII is not a piece of consumer electronics.
Right. Canon is too "nervous" to release the 1DsIII, but they're willing to put the 1DIII in the hands of the press, photojournalists, wedding photographers, and other working pros all over the world.
Makes sense to me. I think I'll cancel my order for the III and wait for the IIIn, just to be safe.
I am absolutely sure the fact the 1Ds Mark III wasn't announced yet has almost no relation to the "1D Mark III Beta testing".
Countless more bodies of the 1D Mark III will be sold compared to the next 1Ds, so the real risk is to disappoint the photojournalists, wedding photographers, etc...
