I must admit to being sceptical about the anti dust vibrate in the 400D, along the lines of anything not absolutely necessary between the sensor and the lens is a bad thing. I am still sceptical and sensor cleaning doesn't bother me, it looks like you can turn it off if you want anyway and as long as it doesn't have any direct impact to image detail then it is fine by me.
What is being vibrated is the IR blocking filter, which you want there anyway.
But Swedish is relatively close to German - haven't you noticed? At least it is closer to German than to Finnish, but for historical reasons we have to learn Swedish for 7 years in school ... Fortunately Swedish helps a bit our English and German learning, so it is not a complete waste of time.

Everybody bitched about the battery on the 1D2, now we have a new system, the complaint is the chargers are different? The new charger is much improved, indicates level of charge currently on the battery, plus we get all that smart battery info in camera, plus less weight, plus the new battery system is smaller...
Isn't it amazing what people will find to complain about? My complaint is that they made a camera SO good that I've got to spend $4K and get one. If they had made some crappy camera, I would have saved my money. Damn you, Canon... your commitment to quality and being on the leading edge is really aggravating me.
Hey!
the 1d mk3 looks very, very nice!
I wish i can afford it. Do you guys think that the 1d mk2n will come cheaper? cause all im going into is the bigger sensor and dust/drip proof! haha
I would really love this camera like all of you will! haha
There hasn't been much specific information about image quality, but I hope the 1DIII will give us better image quality than the 5D, not simply better DR or better quality at high ISO. If the IQ is better, I assume the difference will be in the quality of the new sensor and its software which MIGHT bring us cleaner image quality, better shadow detail, etc. Anyone care to speculate or does anyone have some specific information?

I have to agree with you Steve. I was looking forward to a upscale 20D in the under $2K range that gave me a little better AF. Now I'm seriously thinking about plopping down $4K with no idea how I am going to explain to my wife that my old camera just sort of "grew" but it really is still the same one.
In a conversation this morning with a friend he suggested just dumping all my Canon stuff and going with a D200, since that's really all I need. His logic was that would free up $2700 for lenses, lights or what have you. I scoofed at him but he may have a point. I've never shoot above 400. I need 5 FPS but don't need 10. I would like weather sealing but appreciate a smaller camera. I don't have a problem with crop cameras. Hmmmmm....
It is amazing that Canon kept everything totally under wraps and then in 1 1/2 days introduced the camera and complete documentation (I got a consumer email direct from Canon today).
The implications of Canon's new sensor architecture and digic III processing mean that Canon has (again) moved far ahead of the (current and impending) Nikon/Sony/
Leica, etc. sensors. It's for certain that this technology will come to FF and 1.6X Canon sensors soon.
Using the new pixel technology (smaller pixels with the same light output/better S/N.) could mean a 19.4Mp FF (6.2u pixel) FlagShip 1D and a 5D MKII of 14.5MP (7.2u pixel). The extensive new features of the MKIII would be rationed down- market to the 5D MkII and D40. We might expect a new feature or two for the FF 1D to compete with MF.
I am also very very keen to see how well the 'AF Micro Adjustment' works out. Having just survived a week without my N and 8 lenses for Canon calibration (they did do an excellent job!), I can now tune each of my lenses to the 1D3, and each lens setting and focus point is memorised, and can deleted whenever. A very nifty little feature!
Incidentally, my comments about the image quality of the samples on Canon's site a few pages back were more along the lines of "why didn't Canon look at them @ 100% themselves before posting them".
I wanted to know whether anyone else thought the icescape looked soft on the left, or whether it was just me. I wasn't necessarily having a go at the image quality of the camera, more that of the samples - I felt that for such a big/important release they could/should have been far better at 100%.

I swear, I've been thinking the same thing! At least she's used to seeing the 20D with a battery grip already, so I do have a slight advantage. Problem is, she has used it to take pictures, so I think she would notice the difference in the new body. I'm screwed. I'm going to have to buy this PLUS diamonds.

Diamonds, ouch! Just to think of all of the good glass that could have been had makes me cringe. I have been able to shift white lenses around relatively easily (the trick is never having them all in the same place at the same time) but this is going to be tough.

Even tho the battery has changed, the base looks the same. Any indication whether or not our brackets will still fit?
Also, I'm assuming that since the eyepiece has changed (specifically says the existing anti fog eyepiece won't fit) that the Angle finder C won't fit either?
Don't know about the brackets, but the Angle finder C will work.
See the System Chart on page 58 in the White Paper.

Funny that others think just like me. I went thru the same thing last fall when upgrading to the 1d2n. My wife never even noticed! (or at least never said anything) I guess I'm good now.

Compared to what Canon normally posts they are outstanding.

I'm sure we are not alone. My problem is that I'm not exactly sure what I am getting away with and what is being ignored as she's a very bright lady. Could prove to be very embarrassing one day. Hopefully, if one keeps the old zipper on your lens case up everything will stay cool.

No way would I ever buy a mk3, but from the specs, it looks like a dream camera for anyone that takes pictures of anything that doesn't stand still. Kudos to canon for upping the game again even if its not in my league. The live view lcd is something I would like to see filter down to 30d type cameras. This would be a very useful feature.
I think it makes a great all-around camera: wedding, sports, studio, wildlife, landscape.
