yeah, it seems odd that it would be released this month but have no online support until june. i'm sure that date will change if the camera is released sooner. i found it interesting nonetheless.

Quite true... I just ordered mine today - no deposit required.
What? Are you coming back to the Canon land, Molson ?
I haven't ordered the 1dMk3 and like to wait for the 1DsMk3 instead. But I have never been asked to put any deposit on any items I ordered before at my local Camera Store. Since they have about 40+ people on the waiting list and they may have only 10 or so bodies come in the 1st/2nd shipments, if they are lucky, they will have no problem finding someone to step up and fill your order instead. If I do ordering over the internet, I won't be surprised that a deposit would be asked. I think there is still a difference between dealing locally and via internet.
Word on the street here at this part of the world tells of a SRP (Suggested Retail Price) of RM 15,999 (US$ 4,571); but actual selling price at retail outlets could be around RM 13,800 (US$ 3,942) but actual stock and availability unknown!
Another good thing - its tax free! Zip, nada, 0% (at least for the time being)!! Its also Visit Malaysia Year 2007 now - so come on over, get the 1D MK3 and have a holiday here too!

Cheers!
Do the Malaysian retailers still charge extra for credit card purchases?
Ah, I forgot to mention that! Well, the answer is yes and no. Most large retail outlets do not charge extra for purchases made using credit cards, but some smaller ones still do, and charges varies - anywhere between 1.5 - 3%.
Also, prices at most photographic/electronic stores are usually negotiable, so be prepared to ask around. It would also be best if you get a local friend to do the negotiation for you..
I called Keeple & Schukat (largest dealer in SF Bay Area) and was told they would have the 1D3s in store between the 15th & 17th of this month. Didn't sound like a maybe either. I remember when the 5D started shipping they had them as quickly as anyone and their instore date was right on then as well.

I am assuming that you read White Paper (a starting point for any discussions). There are not any reviews yet; the closest to a real reviews is this preview:
my experience is it is all noise..... when it comes out, it will come out...
people thought there would be a new camera for the 2006 olympics.... never happened... we are still waiting for the replacement....be patient and wait...
