Aparently there is a grid overlay in the software that superimposes a grid on the live preview... I believe it was discussed in the white paper to address the needs of architectural photogs.

The "grid" was shown either in a photo on the white paper, or in a shot on the French-site video.
It was not a grid of squares, and didn't appear to be a "golden thirds" arrangement.
There were only 4 lines, two vertical/two horizontal,...apparently intended only to serve for alignment,...not specific positioning, as for pano overlap..
My suggestion was intended to make possible showing lines of YOUR choosing, rather than someone's arbitrary idea of a "grid" which might contain/not contain lines you do/do not want. AN overlay that you make can have whatever you want, rather than the presumably limited options offered by the camera.
It also could be superimposed over the aspect-ratio frames of your choice, which can be displayed ON, not over, the screen, by the camera.
I don't know whether or not the camera's own grid can be displayed at the same time as the aspect ratio.
My main point was that this additional "feature" of the live-view is much simpler than attempting fine-line application to your viewfinder screen,...and much more easily changeable. ;-)
This is one impressive camera and would love to own one, but that will mean a lot of sacrifices at my end (including probably losing my wife!)
I've downloaded a sample file taken with this camera, and noted that the pixel size is at 3888 x 2592 (11.109" x 7.406") but at 350dpi!! Not to get into this dpi debate but is that the default dpi of this camera? My 20D/30D or even my 10MP G7 is displaying the file at 72 dpi.

Am I missing something here?
Cheers!
Yes a new wife
Tell her to lose the attitude or you're denying her sex for 12 months.
Was thinking of getting one in the US, but I can claim VAT back in the UK, so this would be approx £400 back. Not sure if I get tax back in the US (customs etc)
Re $4800, sounds only $400 only more or 10%... check out the price difference on the new 70-200F4IS... lots more!!
Have you used these guys before, haven't heard of them?
Thanks for sharing
Actually, after a direct comparison, they are pretty close, but the sharpening artifacts in NoiseWare are quite obvious in parts of the image, like in the words "Proportional Scale". On the other hand, NoiseWare did a better job with the noise in the shadow detail, like to the right of the Samuel Smith Lager bottle.
I guess either one provides excellent results, in the end, and shows us just how usable ISO6400 really is on this camera. Real-world examples will be interesting.
Annoyingly, the Warehouse Express price guarantee whereby they beat any genuine price by 25% only applies to items in stock or a real bargain could be had.
Damn, that is a good price but I also have never heard of these guys. Mine is on pre-order with Calumet at £3049, enough of a difference to make me interested.... I will give them a call......
Calumet are not exactly known for being anywhere near cheap! Useful for a pro who needs equipment now but not really for price matching. Didn't it take them some 6 months to get a 1Ds mkII in?
I don't know if anyone knows exactly what Warehouse Express are up to at the moment. They are selling lenses at cost (less than that according to my local pro shop) to corner the market and gain huge buying power with Canon. Not sure where it will end but I got a 24-70L for £818 and I'm not complaining!
As a pro, buying from the states isn't worth the hassle with the accountant and with warranty stuff. Yes you pay more but you can't afford to pay less. Bit of a bugger really.

Resolution is resolution (number of pixels, period). It has nothing to do with dpi or ppi. The only time you consider dpi is when you want to print the image. You or the person making your prints determine what dpi should be used to get the best possible (or sometimes just acceptible) printed image. So if you're going to send an image to a newspaper, they'll usually want just 150 dpi, so an uncropped image from a MKIII would give them a 3888 px/150ppi = approximately a picture 26" wide. If their printer can't do any better than 150 dpi, more pixels aren't going to help. High end slick magazines will often want 300 dpi because they use high end printers and paper and can use more pixels. So looking at this the other way, if they want a print that is 6" across, you'll want to make sure the horizontal pixel count is 6" X 300 dpi = 1800 pixels across. Or you could crop a particular part of the image as long as you make sure you still have 1800 px horizontally.
Bottom line: dpi has absolutely no meaning by itself WRT pixels in a print until you decide how many inches you want the printed image to be.
Canon USA hasn't determined the price yet (read: how much extra profit they want to take). There was an indication that it would go as high as $4,499.00 but if Canon UK has come up with a lower price that indicates the price of that camera should be $3,999.00 on this site of the pond then . Sorry, fellows, I am not rubbing it in, just hoping that indeed it would be on the lower end of the range.
first prices start to appear in online shops over here too...
cheapest i've seen so far is 5300 CHF which is approx. 4400 US$ looks like a reasonable street price. haven't seen any official paper with a price for switzerland yet... but i'm sure it's going to be exorbitantely high. however, it is roughly 25% less than the stated official price in the press release for germany (and therefore probably europe), we've got a lower VAT though.
The price is also approx. 10% higher than the actual 1D2 price, which seems realistic, but I suspect here the prices will drop further.
availability is inconsistent though... varies between end of march to may.

Just be sure to bring your holiday monies and have a good time while shopping B&H.
In six months, after the gloss has had a chance to be enjoyed and the reviews are finally coming out in PopPhoto, if the above $4k (USD) is accurate, we can expect a $3,500.00 (USD) price point and a surge in tourists coming to NYC.
