Where is the best place to purchase from and how long did it take for you to receive your camera? Seems B&H will not even let you get on the notification list for stock availability.
There has to be a better shop that offers a waiting list and not too long of a delivery time from the time of the order..
I bought mine from the B&S board here last week...it was brand new, 531xxx serial number, 1.1.0 firmware... You might have to pay a small premium since they have bought it and paid for shipping already....but, you will have it. Good luck..

Why would I pay a small premium when buying a second hand camera
Mine was bnib, and I didn't mind paying a small premium to get the camera now...if you don't mind to continue to wait in line somewhere, by all means, do so and save a little.
For me, volleyball season started and I needed it now not mid season...
Both mine were from Calumet in the UK, might be a long way for you to come and a bit expensive but have always received regular stock of the 1D3 from Canon.
Actually the best place to buy is from CDW with a corporate account. If you work for a decently large company they probably have an account with CDW. After tax the price worked out to a little of 4K. Saves about 700 over a local shop and 400 of the internet.
Amazon has been getting them in frequently (as opposed to the third party sellers on Amazon - just make sure it's for the $4499 price), a couple of times a week. They sell out quickly in an hour or so. You need to watch and then act fast. I got mine that way.
Can anyone tell me if the MK3 is still suffering from AF issues? I've been dying to get one but I'm really nervous to unload the cash on a Dog. I hear some have no issues, some have nothing but issues, some have got 50/50 with the new 1.10 patch....
The other question I have is regarding the lens fine focus adjustments. Does the camera sense what lens you are using and you going into a menu and then what?
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
The camera detects your lens [ and identifies it ] and then you can alter the back or front focusing by up to +10 or -10. It works great, and takes only a minute. Mind you it takes a little longer the run the testing to find where your lenses sweet spot is in relation to the bodty. Fantastic feature
Wouldn't it be interesting if the 40D actually responded better with AF than the Mark III because it has less AF points, yet they are all cross hairs. If the Mark III is "too" responsive, perhaps the lesser 40D will be just right. Wouldn't that be a strange thing.
got mine from a guy on eBay ... a local guy who seems to have 1 a week or so.... both I and a friend have purchased one form him both picked up in person BOTH BNIB..not even opened by anyone
I paid a few extra bux to buy it this way.. so maybe I paid $200.00 more than the cheapest way I could have purchased it ....but after last weekend at Infineon Daytona Prototype/ IndyCar event ...... I would have been okay if I have spent $500.00 extra to have it to use !! shot are awesome ...... noticably better than the year before using a 1D mk2
my progression .......... 10D , 20D 1Dmk2 10D (borrowed) then the 1Dmk3 (yeah)
still learing the camera but I can say with out hesitation WORTH EVERY PENNY !!.... great tool .... has the 1.1.0 firmware and have not encountered a problem yet ........
worked it out all day last sat ...... 2000+ shots ..... having a hard time identifing 200 best ones .........
AND the BATTERY LIFE WOW !!! ... not even sure I need a spare at all !! I may buy one ... just to have that base covered .........but I may never use it !!
too many cool features to list all ... but great tool !!!!
I used the 1Dmk3 with an EF 200mm F1.8 L .. for what I do Im not sure you can do better

No, because it's rare to have all the points active. But over modulation (clipping) of the most sensitive points could certainly be an issue.
Many people shoot sports with only one active AF point.
I have joined the 1DIII club, and unlike many of the "haters" out there, I have been very pleased. Mine is a 533xxx Serial, and it's been great, once I followed the following advice:
1. Change AI servo tracking sensitivity to fast
2. Enable AF expansion
3. Make sure my iso is appropriate for the shutter speed intended, at a given aperture. The camera seems to shoot very clean shots upto ISO 1600 (I have no hesitation).
4. Use High light priority in high contrast shooting circumstances
5. L glass works best. I have used a 50 f/1.4 and my 70-300 DO, and they don't fair quite as well.
I am a happy camper. Now, with my 5D , S80, and Leica M8 I have a very capable set up for nearly any shooting circumstance (save large/medium format stuff).
It's always nice to read about MIII owners that are happy about their copy. I enjoy mine every day as well. I can't ignore all the others that suffer from AF issues, I hope it will be resolved soon. Sadly, it does not look like fw 1.1.1 will do the job ;-(

Why? I am sure firmware v1.1.1 will not fix hardware AF problems with the MKIII but as far as Firmware problem under certain situations i.e. shooting front lit, 100 degrees F, high humidity (which we rarely get in the UK) , fw v1.1.1 may do the job? who knows.
How decent is it 'wide'? I am really in need of a new body and am thinking that a 1.3 factor on the wide end is not too big of a deal to 'give up' (ie a new 14mmII is still an 18mm FF equivalent. Does anyone have any 14mm shots (granted I know not with the new 14mm).
In the July issue of Tech Tips, Chuck Westfall indicated that the upcoming August issue would have more to say about the focus issues of the new Mark III, however in August all that was mentioned was that Canon would be releasing a "How to get the best out of SLR" guide as their way of dealing with the problem. Now in the September issue, just published, Chuck Westfall entirely ignores the issues and problems entirely. Has anyone heard anything official from Canon USA? While I have been scared off of the Mark III, I would buy the 1Ds Mark III if Canon had addressed the AI autofocus issue and gave assurance that there were no problems with the 1Ds. The 5 FPS of the 1Ds is less than I wanted for wildlife but workable if the autofocus was accurate. I have never seen quite such an arrogant corporate attitude as Canon has displayed over this issue and it puzzels me.
Any insights?
Have you considered the possibility that Canon might be just as frustrated by the Mark III's problems as the rest of us? And that the 1Ds Mark III might be too new for anyone to observe problems yet?
