The solution to me is to not let Costco customers slid cards into your camera It's doesn't matter anyway Canon gets to decide.
Other matters. Lets compare the first round of widely used cameras d30/d60 1d and 1ds with the latest versions 30d 1dm2 1ds2. In all honesty other than a bit of noise reducton, a nip and a tuck here and there, essentially we have modest change over five years. Sure the fanatics will pipe up with a bunch of stuff but go outside take photos you would honestly have a hard time telling them apart. For all the talk of rapid change but really it's been a pretty subtle when compared to say the earlier newspaper1994-5. As far as pma goes we shall see.

I guess I am a fanatic If you do night photography, which I do, then you would have noticed that the 1D and 1Ds cameras were totally useless for that purpose. The MK2 versions, as well as the D30 and D60, are better.
Other than that, since my base print size is 24x36", I am quite happy with the huge difference between the D30 and 1Ds2, but I know I am in the minority.
I wouldn't mind a Canon MF, not b/c I would own it, but b/c a lot of people would switch and sell their EOS gear and driving down the cost of the EOS L lenses

I am sorry I can't find the time to read all 122 pages, but did someone already mention the 500d / Rebel Xt2? Basically a 400D (but silver) with the 350D sensor around 500$ kitprice.
'other than a bit of noise reduction' I'm talking about daylight here, vampire photography is excepted I'm not comparing d30 to 1dsm2. I'm saying compare each part of the line with where it's come from 2000-2001-2002. For all the online noise, pixel counting, oooo and aaaaa things have not really changed a lot once the ink hits the page. The companies have a nice little upgrade cycle going but it's been more incremental subtle changes built on top of each other. I don't there hasn't really been any leaps and bounds improvements just gradual stuff. I'll buy newer like the next guy but it's become more a case of ergonomics or weight or whatever over image changes. I've been sort of unimpressed with the pace really. Steve
i agree to some extent, the 1 series body/ergonomics have not changed at all even from the 1d(2001). if they could give a big jump in dynamic range now that would be a huge upgrade
Recently, engadget.com reported rumors of a 1Ds MK3, that would come in "around half the size of the firm's EOS-1DS Mark II."
So that sound both good and bad.
I do agree that re-designing the 1-series body could allow for greater leaps in technology or performance. But I doubt a reduction in size could cater to such advances.

It has hardly changed since the 1v, which used some of the same parts. And even the 1v basically had the AF system from the EOS 3 of 1998. It is definitely high time for some changes. For starters, the bulky and heavy battery back and resultant compartment are ridiculous for a mere 20WH.
If Canon does launch a new 1d Mark II type body when can we expect to see it in stores? I'm thinking of selling my camera now and using a spare to tide me off until the new one comes out.

Empirical evidence: one day of a CF card in my pocket, vs. one day of a SD card in the same pocket. Throw a cell phone, car keys, and some change into the mix. Try it yourself, and report back.
I can have a 16GB CF card today. Can you say the same for SD? By the time you will, I will have a 32GB CF card. And so on. Size (usually) matters, in more ways than one.
Although even with a 1DsMkII in raw mode 16GB is nearly 1000 shots, I doubt even a Nat. Geo. photographer needs more then 1000 shots per day, so they can dump a days work to a computer, having never to need to change cards, so the format of the card itself doesn't really matter.

True. But try a wedding photographer. Plus, something is telling me that the 1Ds2 isn't the limit when it comes to file sizes. Just imagine a true 14- or even 16-bit camera at say 30MP. 16GB will look like a sad thing then (to some; some others will still use 2GB cards ).

Oh Monito, you poor poor sod . I'm sorry for the humourly challenged that there was no smiley face ( )on the end of my post to make it so BLATABLY obvious of its intention.
Am I coming off your Christmas list. Oh no Is that like a junk filter you can apply to peoples posts on FM. I want one. Can it be modified to ignore ALL posts I disagree with. That would be cool.

i think if they could just ditch the 1D's general design and think of something new, it would allow them to try lots of possible new things.
Yeah, it would be especially awesome if they copied the Nikon philosophy of having sensibly placed dials and switches for all basic functions

Do you think a 3 inch LCD will eventually come to a Canon dSLR?
If a 3 inch LCD can fit on a little elph, I'm sure it could fit on an SLR.
What do you think?
Definitely. There's still space in existing line-up of EOS DSLRs to fit a 3-inch screen; so if there's any new DSLR for PMA 2007, I won't be surprised to see Canon implementing a 3-inch type for the first time.
But I will take OLED over LCD monitor anytime even if it is only 2.5-inch.

There has been some light talk of a 4000D to compete with D40 from Nikon...
