Dylan,
Yes you most certainly may ask and the truth is, it is water at 32’F or zero Celsius. The temperatures in Michigan have been very mild and it was quite hard to find something that looked cold. I got up early and looked around our yard as I found some frost on bird feeders, fences, frostbitten flowers and grass. I shot anything and everything and when I thought there I had captured every possibility of anything that even remotely looked cold, I came across an orange plastic wheelbarrow that I neglected to put away that was hidden by some shrubbery. I looked at the frozen water as a child that walked into a candy store for the first time. I took a few shots and noticed as I moved around the wheelbarrow the color changed picking up highlights from the sky as well as the wheelbarrow. After I shot about one dozen shots, I retreated to my home and the evaluation of cold started with a hot cup of coffee and a golden retriever by my side. My guess is the water expanded when frozen and the plastic expanded then when it got warmer the plastic moved at a different rate causing the ice to buckle. That is just my unscientific guess and I welcome other to offer any ideas as to this marvel. The result was one of natures scientific marvels found in my own back yard. Thanks for viewing and commenting on my attempt at capturing cold for this week’s assignment.
Happy holidays from the USA,
Tom

very cool, nice colours, looks modern but yet, abstract in a way.
Nice shot Tom. I have seen similar structures in our plastic stock tanks. It is usually caused there by breaking the ice a couple of times per day. After a few days the ice is very jagged and uneven. Your shot almost resembles frost on glass. Very nice composure, color and crop. I like this one.
I think this shot is so interesting, and mysterious. I couldn't imagine what it was, and thought it might even be ice on blue glass, so I'm glad you explained. I love the colors, and patterns....you did a beautiful job on this one!
Thank you Pyilly,
It has been so warm I didn't think I was going to get much of a shot of anything cold. Your frost on the window is a fantastic shot. I keep going back and admiring it, Nice Job!
Thanks again for your comments on my entry this week,
Tom
