just get a hotshoe to pc and pc to mini to make it work, or get a hotshoe to mini. I like having 2 pieces, in case i need to adapt any pc to mini quickly.

Cheaper than buying the Paramount cables too.

I use Pocket Wizards with 550ex flashes remotely on tripods. Two adapters for tripod (Bogen) mount, (Wein Safe-Sync Hot shoe Mount Volt High H-Sync, B&H part WESSHSH) and (Canon OA-2 Adapter B&H part CAOCSAOA2) from the Wein onto the tripod head. A PC to Mini cable from the OA-2 to the Pocket Wizard. Works like a dream!

Correction, (happy fingers) the pc to mini cable connects the Pocket Wizard to the Wein adapter, which mounts on the Canon OA-2, which mounts onto the Bogen tripod. I use Sigma & Canon flash units outdoors this way and IT IS "a dream"!

bka20d, above, is correct. I have this Paramount cord and it works just fine. No feedback, as with the ST-E2, so you can't do ETTL. Manual only.

Wrong, Wireless E-TTL control is done via light waves; on the ST-E2, they're emitted through the red filter and on the 580ex thru the flash.

Now if we could figure out a way to get the ST-E2 to fire studio strobes, we'd be in business! haha.

You can get the ST-E2 to fire strobes. just tape off the 4 pins on the ST-E2 (Not the middle one).

It will fire the strobes. I used to do this with my strobes until I got Pocket wizards.

Hmmm... I've tried it and couldn't get the AB slave sensor to see the light from the ST-E2. I'll have to fiddle some more. Perhaps that wasn't my problem. I didn't tape the pins. though.

can't wait to try it now.

B

Stephensonc, just for curiosity, what kind of strobes were you using?

You tape the pins to prevent the preflash from the ST-E2. If the ST-E2 wasn't triggering your strobes without taping, I doubt it will with taping. The taping is just a timing deal...to ensure the strobe is triggered during the exposure and not before.

You could probably get the ST-E2 to trigger the 550EX and have it trigger the strobe...assuming no latentcy issues.

Yea, that is what I was thinking. THe ST-E2 is just not bright enough to trip the slave on the alienbees. ALthough, if I were to be able to buy a slave that it WOULD trip, i'm sure it would save me the money of PWs at least for a nice stopgap. I believe i had once figured out a way in the 1D to turn the E-TTL off or something and have it just trigger by TTL. I could be wrong however.

If you just want to trip your Bees you might consider the new AB radio slave. $80 for the set. It's design isn't compatible with the 580ex or the Sekonic meter transmitter, but is designed to integrate into the AB equipment and is a bargain compared to a pair of PWs

Don't you already have the 550EX? That would do the trick.

to reiterate, you have to literally shove the paramount cord onto to the bottom of the 580ex flash
