We stayed with our friends in Goulburn, New South Wales and I fell out of bed before dawn and took various shots with my 300 f/4 L IS. Goulburn is drought stricken at the moment and this is the only moisture the paddocks will get

A very special image - outstanding. Wonderful atmosphere, but for me more than anything else the balance and flow of shapes and light make this magical. Worth many return visits (I mean the image, but I'm sure the area as well)!

By the way Sheila, are you familiar with Dobie's Bight? It just popped into my head because I had a pen pal there, almost...well, never mind how many years ago.

Hi Jess

Dobie's Bight is a lot further north, near the Queensland border. This shot was taken about 300 kms south west of Sydney. The whole state has been declared (yet again) drought stricken - the worst drought in 100 years. Our friends have been hand feeding their cattle for the last five years. But our noble prime minister still has his head in the sand (amongst other places ) regarding global warming!

I should spend more time with maps. Thanks for the info. I recently read a novel about drought in the Mallee back in the forties, and realized how ridiculously little I know about Australia's history, geography, etc.

Our "noble" leader has his head in the sand about many things (oops, no politics here, sorry), and climate change seems to be all too ignorable in the minds of most of the world's politicians. Well, I'm still glad when people like you find visual treats among the happy and unhappy circumstances of our world.

Simply spectacular. This image appeals to me on every level. The composition is simply superb. The background, midfield, and foreground all stand alone artistically. Together they are in perfect harmony.

Awesome picture! I have some friends down under and they tell me about the drought as well...

I believe in Global warming but disagree with the reasons why we are experiencing it now (ie - I don't think it is because of too much CO2 and man made Methane). I usually have some good debates with my friends and coworkers about this subject... anyways I'm getting off the topic, nice capture

This basically is the idea I had initially for this WA...but I wanted a pair of byzantine church steeples to project above the fog. The weather never did cooperate the last 8-10 days...or however long this assignment has run. Anyway, when I saw your entry...I decided you had nailed the idea, and I needed to come up with another idea to pursue. Love the image!
