Victor, Roger Williams is a close friend of mine, out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He paints in a very similar style if that isn't one of his. And did do a series of Mission paintings a couple of years ago very much like that one.

Marco,
Selling the Canon 300 2.8L IS for the manual focus, non IS, one stop slower Leica 280 f/4.. you have truly slid to the bottom of the slippery slope. Nice apartment, very neat and tidy, I assume you have no teenage kids living with you

David

David, it may be one stop slower, manual focus, and non IS, but just wait until he sees how good this lens is. It is spectacular. Better than my 300 2.8L I used to have, which is really saying something. Also it is a whole lot smaller and lighter I can carry around the 280/4 without a sherpa, two mules, and a boy.

I have created a table from information in a thread on LCU, which contains all known codes for Leica M lenses, as well as instructions on how to code them yourself, which can be done with a felt-tip pen.

Leica M8 Lens Codes

David,

yes, I quickly slid to the bottom with this Leica craziness

Always loved Leica lenses when I was shooting film, but needed to sell them due to economical reasons, later I went to Canon, then digital with the D30 till the 1Ds.
This summer I bought an R-D1, felt in love with Leica-M lenses, ordered the M8, bought a couple of Leica-R lenses to go with the 400D, felt in love with Leica-R lenses, received the M8, felt in love with this Kodak sensor, ordered the DMR while selling all Canon stuff. It's all about love!

The 280/4 Apo + DMR combo gives me roughly the same reach of the 1Ds + 300/2.8L IS + 1.4x.
And I think that adding the 1.4x Apo would give me better image quality than the 300+2x, which I personally never found more than 'good enough'.
IS is phenomenal but to me, giving the weights of theses combos, a monopod is needed anyway, if anything for the comfort of shooting.
The DMR + 280 is also about 1 kg lighter to carry.

And finally I got a good deal on some Leica lenses, as the 70-200/2.8L IS + 300/2.8L IS + 1.4xII has paid for the 100/2.8 Apo-Macro, 180/3.4 Apo-Telyt, 280/4 Apo and 1.4x Apo

As for the kids, well... indeed I'm still young for them ... otherwise bye bye Leica... I know I'd shoot only with the 400D + 18-55...

Thanks Carsten,
It is great to hear that we might be able to code CV lenses. Keep us posted.

Vielen Dank for the link, Carsten!

Wow, they are a bunch of creative people out there alright. Supposedly, there are three shifts working 24 hours that do nothing but coding lenses at the Solms facility (they actually have to replace the mount to do that).... That might change before too long.

Yes I did tone them in Raw developer with a tint slider . Pretty cool

Great shots Guy, and I'm finding Raw Shooter to be a fabulous converter with it's B&W capabilities high up on the list of reasons why. But it's detail is 2nd to none, it's quickly becoming my go to. I wouldn't have even checked it out if it weren't for how Brian is working to simulate C1 and thus makes Jamie's profiles very useable, but it does a great job on my Kodak files as well. I did a quick comparison with some of my SilkyPix conversions, (my last favorite), and RS won! best...Pteer

Guy, which you prefer between the 21 asph and 24 asph ?

I found that both are great, with the 21 slightly less contrasty at higher apertures, which sometimes is a bonus.
At first I thought the 24mm had a slightly edge in sharpness, but maybe it's only a contrast thing. Need to investigate more when I'll get my M8 next week.

I think the 24mm maybe a touch sharper but I need to test that one. There both very good

To me that says more about the 21 ASPH since it is the wider lens and if it can compete with the 24 then that's good to know.

Especially since I'm coming from Canon who is incapable of making a sharp wide lens.

Ouch!
Guy, this hurts indeed.

Sadly the next (indeed the first) batch here will arrive early next week, probably on Tuesday, so I don't think I could help here.

I'll take a look on the web if I find a dealer which has one in stock and if the case I'll let you know.

Hope you could get by with the DMR meanwhile...

I'll let you know what I can do.
