Thank you so much for volunteering. I would like to see just a shot of the barcode on the box shot wide open to judge sharpness(on tripod/timer). And anything to show quality of bokeh.
as I said...open fut [foot] and insert mouth. I'm just anxious to see images to satiate all those who are running wild in this thread. My apologies to you 2...

Please check again. Everything I've read so far suggests that it does not.
Well, the inner barrel can rotate, swivel or dance a jig for all I care, because the filter attaches to the outer barrel and that means it's dust proof. If they would have used this design with the 85L, I'd still have one. Thanks again bka20d, for sharing your experience.
Just got mine. The inner barrel does NOT rotate. And yes the filter attaches to the outer barrel.
First mechanical impressions, light and small compared to the original 50L. Seems well built, weather sealed at the back. Looks like a nice, elegant sized lens.
I am processing some samples....but won't guarantee that I'll get any of them up tonight...
Quick focusing in low light. Seems to have accurate AF.
At f/1.2 it is definitely sharper than my older 50L at f/1 ! WOOHOO
And stopped down, it is definitely a very sharp lens.
At first blush, this lens appears somewhat better than the pre-production samples that everyone has been worrying over.
ghuff, if it's not too impertinent can I ask how much you paid for it. I'm hearing all kinds of rumours about actual street price and don't know what to believe.
OK guys, some simple test shots. First of all, this is a tool wall in my workshop. This was shot on a tripod, autofocus, MLU, and using one umbrella flash.
There are 5 photos in this gallery. PLEASE NOTE THE NAME OF EACH below the photos. There is ONE 50L f/1.0L @f/1.0 taken earlier this year as a REFERENCE.
Then, what you've been waiting for, 4 photos with the new 50L f/1.2:
f/1.2, f/2, f/4, and f/8.
These were processed with C1 and heavily compressed with Photoshop. They are full res. Click on "original" to see the full sized image.
In my haste to shoot these, I did not look at the histogram as closely as I should have. The f/1.2 and f/2 are 1/2 to 3/4 stop overexposed, and this probably accounts for some of the excess purple fringe in those 2 shots.
The new lens definitely seems to perform better than the old one.
I'll take more shots tomorrow as I have time....but have to go to a funeral tomorrow.
Looks pretty good wide open; the corners aren't bad either. A nice improvement over the old f/1, albeit at 2/3 stop slower. Seems to be tack sharp by f2. Not to mention this was under the scrutiny of the 1DsII's sensor.
I definitely see one of these on my 5D in a month or two
Thanks for the samples. Take a look at the file magnet, is that purple fringing. I can see it up to the F4 shot. I guess that's just part of the deal with digital. I had it on my 85L at 5.6 sometimes.
Thanks Gary, I have waded through 23 pages expecting test shots with each click of the mouse. This is a good demonstration subject. Look forward to more. Again thanks. Tom
I'm sure others will have more test results available by tomorrow also.
Yes, it does fringe some. I actually think that is more akin to sensor bloom....but you are correct, the 85L does it also...or at least mine does.
But, I would guess for most uses of f/1.2 .....most likely lights and highlights will not be VERY strong like in this photo (done with a studio flash system), so the purple fringe may not be as much of an issue?
How about a shot of me with the lens, and then running off into the sunset with said lens, never to be seen again? I might bring it back when I get my own......or maybe not
Outside of the usual sharpness and bokeh stuff, I guess some Servo autofocus tracking shots to please the "if it doesn't have lightning fast autofocus then it's a stupid niche lens for those prime geeks" crowd. You know, how when the word "slow" or "not that quick" and "autofocus" is spoken, it's like the entire forum becomes a bunch of sports shooters
