Thanks for the comments.
These shots are of Rod Lewis, the new owner of Glacier Girl and Rare Bear. Up until Rod bought Glacier Girl, Steve Hinton was the only pilot allowed to fly the airplane. I was told this was Rod's 3rd flight. These were taken on a very smokey Saturday 9/8.
Sabreliner T-39. The Navy used them mostly to train radar/weapons officers for 2 seat fighters and bombers. Also some were outfitted as VIP movement aircraft. I imagine the Air Force used them for the same thing. I've been retired 10 years and they were flying them when I enlisted in '77 and I'd be surprised if they're still using them in the military except for maybe an occasional few for R&D. Nice capture Lars. Not taking away from the new jets, but I love to see the old ones still flying around. Judging from the "N" number on it, I bet this one is privately owned and you can spot it at some air shows.

Ladies and germs, I have had to bite the bullet of reality and cancel my trip to Columbus for GML. I wish those who make it great light and even better images!
I have individual box seat tickets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, worth $165. I'll send the electronic ticket file (and overnight the paper tickets if necessary) to any photographer on this thread who wants to go. Donations accepted but not required.
Hey Rodolfo - thats a great offer. Id take you up on it and donate as well - but I've got gen admission tickets already - yours would be a huge upgrade - and I'd pass mine on to someone else as well - but lets see if someone else claims them

Rodolfo-
I’m going to GML and I have not yet bought my tickets. But I’m only going for one day- Saturday or Sunday, depending on how the weather looks. I’ve got a hotel for Saturday night and I’m a 4 hour drive away. I thought of just getting a general admission ticket (unless I hear recommendations otherwise). So maybe there will be someone here who could make better use of your 3 day tickets than I can.
Too bad you can’t make it. Looks like a superb air show.
Last weekend we were supposed to photograph our clubs Cardinal A2A, but as so many times this time of year, unfortunately the Mother Nature didn't want to co-operate. Had to settle with S2A shots then.

But all in all, it was again good practice for me. Guys were flying some SAR-training related stuff like different approaches etc. so I got plenty of repeats...
Tim,
Great shots of Glacier Girl. It is so amazing to see her fly again after following her story for so many years. If I am not mistaken, I think the timeline from finding her to getting her airborne was longer than the entire original P-38 program! The only P-38 I have ever seen is sitting on a set of pillars down at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Here it is....with a little Photoshop magic. (note how there is absolutely no motion blur!! )
You all know how hard I've worked trying to master my MKIII. After 20,000 frames, a number of which are outstanding, I've decided to go retro. Just ordered a new 1D MKIIn. I love the potential of my MKIII, but I still can't trust it. I shot a grass strip fly-in with it a few weeks ago, over 1,000 captures, and most were very good. A few days ago I shot a hundred or so shots of my Grandchildren riding battery powered four wheelers in our yard, and 90% were throw aways, and that was with my 70-200/2.8, a rockin' fast lens. I can't get the camera in the zone, and therefore I can't trust it. Even my sharp ones lack the crispness I've become accustomed to with my other Canon bodies. When I manually focus, it's a wonderful piece of equipment, but when things are really rocking, I am just not sure of it.
I'm going to keep it, and I've got a 1Ds MKIII coming in the next 30 days, but can't trust my clients work to this camera at this point, in certain situations. I think I found one of the last new IIn bodies in the world, in NY, they're overnighting it to me so I'll have it for GML.

Jim, let us know how you'll like the 1Ds III.
Toss that 1D III in the bin - camera you can't trust its even worst than no camera - sadly though.
