Thanks Tom!

The way the weather has been this year I think I might have to branch out into underwater photography. I'm considering going to "Evan Almighty" a second time and taking notes! How big is a "Cubit"?!

JW

P.S. I've been know to do some little one's photography too, if they are related. This is my littlest Granddaughter, appropriately named, "Faith".

JW.

What an amazing thread that has taken me hours to read but thoroughly enjoyed every post..

Your pictures inspire me.
Your manners are impeccable.
Your attitude to others is stunning.
You are indeed a shining example to everyone on this planet and I am proud to know there are still people around that makes life still worth living.

Keep up with your wonderful job sir, If I ever visit the US it would make my visit worth the thousands of miles from the UK just to shake your hand..

Regards Tim.

Great answer Jim, you've helped me to pull together some thoughts and focus and thats a great help. While much of my landscape shots would probably benefit from using a pinhole camera or my old Exacta, I'm bumping into a speed issue for the sports and the motorsports I want to do. The 20 D - would feel like molasses in your hands if you were confined to using one now and I'm feeling that sluggishness every time I get it out and try to capture anything moving. It will stay in my bag though - no need getting rid of it yet.

Maybe thats just body envy... would that be a problem under the 10th eternal suggestion?

Dear Tim,

Your post means more than I can express, thank you. You all have become friends over the last year and I value each and every one of you. I wish there was a way we could all get together, but we haven't had much luck just getting a few of us together.

Please let me know if you're headed my way, it would be my honor to take you out for some Texas barbecue and a tour of the hangar. Don't be a stranger to our thread, it's all of you that make it truly unique.

God Bless,

Jim

Wow! I disappear for just 24 hours, and two pages are posted! Great shots!!!

Ok, that was an easy one. It was a B-17, and it is indeed Nine - O - Nine.

I'll have to scrounge up something a bit harder for you guys. In the mean time, I humbly offer this to all you great photography gods!

Hi Sagar,

That'll teach you to duck out on us! Nice Liberator shot. I know that was one heck of an airplane, but they are aesthetically challenged. I checked out the one at OSH (might be this same one) and I think it would make a great photo platform. The tail gunner position is like a living room compared to what we have to squeeze into in the 25's. Let's see, a 25 goes for about $2,500 an hour so I guess you could probably triple that for a Liberator.

If you look closely you can see the co-pilot shooting a point and shoot at the crowd line. Maybe that's why that other wheel isn't down yet, Yikes!

Here's another example of why you can never put your camera away. You would think that a dismal sky like the one in this shot would preclude any decent shots. I think the atmosphere enhanced the sinister personality of the U-2. I had to shoot around about a dozen impediments that rolled up and parked right in front of me, water trucks, scooters, the guy in the wheel chair that flew the kite and a fuel truck or two, man was I frustrated.

That's a beautiful crop/frame Jim! This guy live but 4 hours from me. I had a chance to ride in the Pontiac GTO chase car for the U2 last year. I'm sitting in the back, passenger side seat, doing 130mph down the runway! 17mm, exposed for the outside, bounce flash to illuminate the inside pilot and speedometer. It was, dare I say, perfect.

Would you like to see it? I know I would. At some point after the ride, I changed CF cards, and from running from one end of the show to the other, it slipped out of my pocket.

WOW - Nice shot of the Lone Cypress at Pebble! We were just out there and I spent an hour waiting for the light... it turned out to be the wrong angle at the time of year for waht I was looking for - but I'm still pleased with what I did get.

Blueangel - hopefully someone will spend some time and figure out how to get the card back to you. I was at an Atlanta Braves game the other day and found an SD card on the concourse floor. No one was around so I stuck it in my pocket.
When I got back to the office, i slpped it into the reader and on it were pictures of a family trip to Cooperstown to watch their son's team play in a little league playoff. On one picture, I could make out the name of a team so I checked the ballpark schedule and found a team that plyed there last August. I then did a google and found one hit where the Red Wings were mentioned at a USSSA site.
As it turned out they were from Raleigh, NC. I wrote to the league contact and told her what I found and she contacted the team coach. He wrote and I sent the card to him yesterday. I know not all stories will turn out like this - but hopefully we all can make extra effort to see that cards get returned - and just maybe you'll get yours back.

Oh Sagar! I'm sorry!! I was salivating while reading your description of the shot. Man, Murphy's Law is alive and well!! Oh well, we'll forever imagine that shot as flawlessly composed and executed!!

Hi Jon,

You're a good man to go through all that detective work. I'm sure the family appreciates it greatly. A few weeks ago coming back from Florida, the American baggage handler mixed up a bag and had it tagged as mine. When I got off the plane and collected matching baggage tags, I had this extra duffle. In the duffle was a new video camera and a Canon Rebel XT. There wasn't anything identifying the owner. I couldn't decide what to do because I had my doubts about giving it back to someone at DFW with all that gear in it. My daughter took it, and did the same thing you did, oddly enough it was a baseball team again, and a trip to Disney. She found some camp reference or something, called the Y or whoever, then sent a couple of the images of the family. The person at the camp organization recognized the Mom and kids and had them call us and we shipped it all back to them Fed-Ex.

All's well that ends well!

I just figured that the images were probably worth more than the camera that took them and they'd want them back - in your case it was probably the other way around - in any case it goes to show that it is worth every minute to go the extra effort to do this for people. Loving even strangers as much as you love yourself and all that sort of thing. I know I'd like to think someone would step up for me... even if they knew me!
