Eric, you're right about the filter not surviving: see this posting on Filter test: paintball shootout, which I wrote after getting some suggestions in response to this posting. I also agree about the saran - it's not good enough. I just ordered three OP/TECH Soft Pouch D-SLR cases. I'll cut off the ends of the lens tubes and shoot from inside the soft cases. The lens tubes will probably be cut so they just cover the start of the zoom rings on the 24-70L and 70-200 L IS, and just cover the start of the focus ring on the 300/4 L IS. I'll probably cover the remainder of the lens barrels with thick sheet plastic, less a bit to have a grip on the zoom rings and the 300's focus ring.
