p.1 #1 · My new toy (First studio peice)

My new Alien Bee's B800 and accessories arrived in the mail today. I haven't had much time to play with it, or I would be posting this under the People Photography forum. :)

http://pics.hawknetworks.com/gallery/v/kelly/new-toys/B800/

I kinda futzed with it for about 30 minutes after assembly. It took all of my will power not to assemble the softbox at work, where the items shipped to. I only hurt my eye a little bit looking through the viewfinder with the flash dialed up too high. (Sitting behind the flash, not looking into it.)

Included is 2 shots I took of the strobe itself, one of it without the sync cable which turned out looking neato, and one of a table in my messy apartment.

Anyways, I'm really quite excited, and couldn't contain myself. :)

Me too! Only I got the two AB400s (Digibee package). Set it all up to make sure everything works, took one shot (http://www.pbase.com/fallline/image/67556768) and put it all up until I can decide where to set up a studio in a house that doesn't have room for a studio. Hmmm, that garage looks roomy enough.. maybe my wife won't miss the new bedspread. Hey, a "studio" needs a backdrop!

Good luck and good shooting!

Good luck to you too!

On a side note, your cat looks horrified at the prospect of being your unwitting test subject. My girlfriend is going to be my unwitting test subject, rope or not! (Or should I say soon to be ex...) ;-)

You're doing better than me, I have a 2br apartment with roommate. I get to set this up in the living room. This place looks like a one stop shop for bicycle photography, with the three bikes, tools, and camera peices strewn about. (We're both into cycling and photog, only he's a Canon guy like you.)

Well, she was fine at first but tired of the idea after I took too long getting the shot. Like I said, my first time.

BTW, my wife says she'll model for me on one condition, MEO (my eyes only, not for general distribution without her approval!)

I think it's going to be a fun learning curve for both of us. Thank goodness for digital camera technology and FM! I can't imagine doing this with the cost of trial and error using film.

Same here, depending on the style of shot. :) Anything that would require a warning here would be considered strictly off-limits for public consumption.
