Today Canon announced some new camera models ( A80 ; Kiss lite) and the EOS300D or Kiss digital as it is called in Japan. We expected this camera for a long time already. Canon also introduced a new 18-55 mm zoom with a wide-angle range interesting as a standard zoom for its 1.6 cropped sensor bodies. Canon just published a dedicated 300D flash site. and press info at the European site.
The camera has the same 6MP sensor as Canon's D60 and 10D models, supports JPG & RAW and has 7AF points working from EV 0.5-18. The 300D uses the EOS mount and comes in a kit with a dedicated 18-55mm lens. It shares a lot of components with the rest of the D-series; Eg. battery pack is the 511/512, but also uses part of the KISS/REBEL line like remote control etc.
The EOS300D is very compact and lightweight and offers for a great part functionality of a 10D in a slightly changed Rebel TI/EOS 300v body. Pricing of the kit is expected to be very aggressive and will probably not only compete with other manufacturers but also with Canon's 10D.
