Yup, Nikon Malaysia officially released the D80 specs, finally!:
http://www.nikon.com.my/pagearticle.php?pageid=91

It's got D50 Matrix Metering, D200 autofocus, and 11-AF points like in the D2 series...surely a very interesting camera.

And, although NOT officially announced yet, near the bottom in the fine print they also confirm the 18-135mm f/3.5-4.5G AF-S lens by saying:

* Achieved under the following test conditions: Fully charged EN-EL3e battery; temperature of 20°C/68°F; Zoom-Nikkor AF-S DX 18-135mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED lens; continuous shooting mode: continuous-servo autofocus; image quality set to JPEG BASIC; image size set to Medium; shutter speed 1/250 second; shutter release pressed halfway for three seconds and focus cycled from infinity to minimum range three times with each shot; monitor turned on for five seconds after six shots and then turned off; cycle repeated once exposure meters turned off.

So the 18-135 was the lens in the D80 photo?

there was mention of a DX 18-135 on another post. It's the 9th august in NZ today, but no sign of a D80 or anything else on www.nikon.co.nz.

Damn. Every item on my wish list is answered except for the 5 cross sensors, which was an admittedly extreme longshot. lol. If the new image processing chip results in D50 like results...damn...i will be $1000 poorer.

A couple of items that caught my eye:

- Battery pack available
- ISO 100
- Auto ISO has a user definable top limit
- No setting banks
- Color histogram
- Sepia and B&W modes

Still no explanation how to insert the CF card through that small door

With the option to go HI-1 I suspect the noise from the D80 will be the best performer nikon has to date.... better than D50 and D2hs........Its the single largest concern that many pixel peepers have.

It looks like a very nice stocking stuffer if Nikon can keep them on the shelves. Is the D70s through then?

Why do people care about the 70-300 VR lens?

The 70-300 is a mediocre lens as it is, adding VR makes it nice but doesn't increase the picture quality.

Throw VR on a coke bottle and it won't help much.

I thought that thing was pretty fair optically - albeit slow in the lens speed department.

VR would appeal to me.
