Jason, are you using the Alien Bees octabox or another brand?

Yes, it is the Alien Bees brand. I like it a lot, and use it quite frequently. The only gripe that I have is that it is a pain to set up and take down. Especially since I only shoot on location. But I did just pick up two of the foldable med softboxes from Alien Bees. Those are superb. Very quick set up, they will probably become my new fav.

Thanks Brandon! This was kind of just a shoot on a whim since the weather was finally somewhat decent yesterday. I'll be posting more from this shoot in the coming days.

Hey Jason,

Quick question for you. When you usually shoot on location, do you carry your AB strobes around with you 24/7? And if you do, what type of light stands do you use? I'm sure someone asked you this question before, but I don't really feel like going back through 62 pages.

Thanks!

Hey man, no worries... I don't think anyone has asked that question yet. Everything I shoot is on location somewhere. I'm just a college student and don't really have a big enough apartment to adequately set up some sort of studio space. Wish I did though.
Anyways, the Bees go with me whenever I shoot. I have a cooler with wheels that I use to tote around the lights, vagabond, reflector, pocket wizars, etc. Honestly, I still use the lame 13' "heavy duty" (i use that term loosely) lightstands that came with my Bee package. They aren't that great, once I get some extra cash, I'm going to find something else. They are too flimsy and kind of a pain to set up. Luckily I have a couple friends who seem to always be up for helping me with shoots. They get the fun job of holding my stands in place so they don't blow away with the softboxes on. Hope that answers your question.

Cheers,
-Jason

Jason,

Are you doing these shots professionally or just for fun?

Hey Jason,

Thanks for the quick reply. Cooler with wheels to carry your AB's around eh? Nice! I didn't know that the AB's came with light stands. good info to know.

Thanks again.

Well, I'm a student and haven't been shooting for very long, so there is no way I would ever consider myself a professional. I do have paying shoots, but those are not my primary source of income, so again can't claim any kind of professional status. Photography for me was initially just a hobby, but lately it has evolved into a paying hobby. In regards to this latest photo, it was just for fun. I hadn't shot in a while and wanted to get out and get back in the swing of things.

Cheers,
-Jason

I'll throw in one more:

http://www.trientaliseuropaea.net/images/1867.jpg

Thats actually a pre-shoot test to find out how the light and reflector worked together. Good old Bowens delivered (always use flash thats older than your model) but the ghetto-reflector (large strip of white plastic - LDPE, polystyren or very thin acrylic, can't remember what it was) yielded mighty blue colour cast. Due to the bluish reflection the actual photo shoot was handled with two-three flashes instead of one flash & reflector (and thus not qualifying to this thread).

Your photos are really superb. I've shot sporting events for 10 years and I know old time pros who would like to have the eye you do. Excellent job. Where do you find all your models?

Take care.

Well thank you Matt! I sincerely appreciate the vote of confidence. You rock!
I'm actually just blessed with really beautiful friends. About half of the girls I've shot with are just friends that are nice enough to let me practice shooting on them. The other half are either local models, musicians, seniors, etc. I live in a college town so it's not hard to find people that want their picture taken. Well, for the most part.

Cheers,
-Jason
