do you really get good profit from reprints? I charge upfront from everything then just give them a printable cd proof
am i wrong?
absolutely not. I get most of my money up front too, but if I have to go thru the hassle of ordering individual prints other than what come in the packages, I expect to make a profit off of those too. Plus I dont have stuff printed at costco or walmart so 5x7 cost me quite a bitmore with shipping and all especially if it is the only print made.
yah I charge $5 right now which is too low, so when I update in the next week or so I will start charging around $10 unles they order a bulk amount (like every $100 will recieve a discount and so on). This does give them the option to go ruin your work by printing stuff at walmart/etc, but hopefully you'll be able to convince them that this is NOT WORTH it!.
if i'll get a $200 revenue on reprints I rather not do it vs the time I will spend on sending it to print lab & shipping it to them, I always give them the CD proofs.
The right way is whatever works for you in your market area and provides a decent monetary return. There are just about as many pricing schemes as there are photographers. Getting your money up front is tons easier than trying to prevent copying, which happens anyway, but it may mean slightly less return. Try it both ways and see what works!

I do both. I give them the CD and let them get prints where they want, but I obviously give them the option to buy reprints through me if they want to.
I charge $20 a unit, a unit being any combo of an 8X10 (1 8X10, 2 5X7's, 4 3X5's, or 8 Wallets) all have to be the same image, and I need at least a $50 order (minus my profit, that is what my lab requires)
