Very wide of you...

You may want to begin your post title with #208: so it'll count.

Good shot.

Welcome to the board. Fantastic shot, the dramatic clouds, the perspective and the sepia tint make this shot IMHO. The fence leads you straight to the clouds. Great first entry.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you like the image! My B&W processing differs with each picture. For this one, I adjusted basic tonality and color with levels, curves, hue/saturation and selective color. Then I used a channel mixer layer in monochrome for the B&W conversion. I added another curves layer to fine-tune the B&W tone. Then for the colorizing I added two color fill layers on top of each other. The bottom one had sepia tone in the shadows and midtones, the top one had cyan tone in the midtones and highlights. I then adjusted the blending between these two layers to control which values were sepia and which were cyan. If you need more specific help with any of these steps let me know and I'll try to assist.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Great shot and entry - welcome to the WA's. I also very much like your B&W conversion. The wide angle works very well with this shot giving the image som much depth. Well done!

Good entry, Chris. The BW conversion is very good. I'm very keen to see the colour version of this shot, is that possible?

Wide open spaces...... and a fence. Nicely done. Great job.

Sorry it took me a while to reply. For some reason, I stopped getting notifications for this thread. Hmmm. Anyhow, here's the color version.

I like them both, and they affect me quite differently. The grass stands out more in the color shot, and my attention is drawn to the entire scene. In the B&W version, the lack of color focuses my eye on the fence and its relationship with its surroundings more.

Thanks for your feedback!

What camera & lens did you use? Cool photo. I live in the SF Bay Area and I'm going out tomorrow w/ my IR camera and a Canon Rebel loaded w/ some high-contrast B&W film.
