I bought a F- Distagon 16mm full frame fish-eye from someone over the net, with EOS adapter, for my EOS 5D. (he used it on a 350D)
The lens / adapter works on the 5D without mirror problems, but infinity focus is not correct. I can use it with F8 to get a reasonable sharpness, I think.
The biggest problem however that the adapter does not rotate the lens as it would normally on a camera with direct mount, no problem for a "normal" lens, but for a full frame fish this means that the "sunshades" are visible on a full frame camera like the 5D...
Gede,
The lens you have is a Rollei F-Distagon Fisheye and not the Contax F-Distagon Fisheye. I have addressed this question in another thread and unfortunately the adapter for the Rollei lens are not readily available and those available are likely to be loose and too thick for infinity focus especially in the short focal length or super wide angle lens. The reason is due to the flange distance of the Rollei lens is very similar to the Canon DSLR and thus it is a difficult to reverse engineer the adapter for the lens; simply there is very little room for building the adapter.
Until now I saw 4 different adapters on the net.... One that looks like mine and another one from the same manufacturer, but looks different and two others...
Hope someone out there had the same problem as I do, and found the right one...
This lens is made by Contax for Rollei. It is not quite the same lens as the Contax, but it is very close in performance. Same coatings etc...
I have an ebay adapter (around US $80) on my version that fits the 1DS perfectly, so it is possible to find an adapter that works. My adapter was from Hong Kong.
Carl Zeiss made the lens for Rollei with the same formula but only different is the coating.
John, they are very thin to make the adapter but not impossible. However, the mechanism to lock the lens to the adapter is tricker than the Contax Carl Zeiss lens.
I also have no problem with the Rollei 16mm on my 5D. I got the adapter here in Hong Kong too. BTW, I also find the Rollei 25mm performing beautifully; the Rollei-Contax lenses are often under-rated, and sometimes under-priced too.
This is a good lens, my version has slightly less CA than my Canon 15mm, but the difference is very small. I have not compared it to the CZ lens as Son probably has done. I think that your mounting difficulties are probably not worth the effort and cost to hunt down an adapter that might work with the 5D. IMHO, the Canon is so close that I would just pick one of those up.
