How can one test if a CF card has gone bad?
I have been told by my Camera manufacturer that all my CF cards have gone bad and offered to prove it to me if I take them down to them!!! (I find very unlikely that all cards failed at the same time but!!!)

Is there any software that can check and report on the health status of a Compact Flash card?
I use Windows XP pro…

Gone bad? how?

A simple test, assuming card is formatted etc. Plug the card into your card reader, open 'my computer', select the card/drive, open the folder, delete anything you see there, leave the window open.
open 'my computer' again, then any folder, and drag stuff over to the card, until the card is full. What messages do you get, does the card get to near enough its capacity, etc? (properties) copy it back from the card to a spare folder - did that go OK?

There are many better methods - sandisk have sw given with their etreme3 cards, google for others, if no body else responds here. It maybe you have formatted the card in the pc to a way the camera doesn't like.

The issue is the Camera gives me an intermittent error... saying either there is no card in the camera or that the card can not be read... Usually removing and replacing the card makes the error go way... and I always lose the photos it was trying to save...
I also have seen the error just by turning on the camera..

I have formatted the card on my PC (using full format and on the camera) but the issue persists… I never actually had a problem copying from the card to the PC using the card reader… I have the Scandisk rescue CD but not sure how this can test the card…. It has the wipe card tool but as far I understand is similar to Zero Write tool for Hard drives… Not really a diagnostic tool…And not to mention very slow!

There were issues, iirc with some lexar cards and some canon cameras. I don't know the details of it. There have also been fake memory cards around.

If you do something similar to my suggestion, it will prove the cf card is ok wrt the pc to card, if it fails that simple copy test, then the card is probably toast. If all your cards are toast, in the pc, then get a brand you know works in your camera, and try that. If that fails in your camera, then I would suspect the camera has some problems. I can only give valid suggestions if I get the full story, and if you follow my step by step instructions. Just because something worked five minutes ago, does not mean it will work now - the wonders of electrickery Camera model, type of cards, if all cards bought at same time from same supplier, supplier etc. can help in any problem diagnosis - of course, bear in mind any advice is worth what you pay for it.

The easy option is to do as the camera folk say, but it appears you doubt their opinion.

Best wishes,
