p.1 #1 · British Touring Cars Last weekend

Second trip photographing motor racing at the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton last weekend... Using my new(ish) Sigma 100-300 (and 1.4 TC for some) C&C very much appreciated! Also, one question - how do you guys compensate for very bright sunlight reflecting off the cars? would be good to have some tips as i'm off to Le Mans next week

I'm not sure I like the crops but great job with the motion blur.

agree re. crops. are you using a polarizer?

i'm off to le sarthe too. first trip for many years - too many in fact! my recollection is shooting opportunities are fairly restricted - fences, long run-off etc. but night time is good as is start & end of mulsanne.

is your trip mainly for photos or just to enjoy the jaunt?

re. crops - they're straight out the camera (apart from no 4 which was cropped very quickly). Actually not that happy with no. 4 but really liked the locked up brakes and tyre smoke. I haven't had time to post-process and/or think about cropping them. But will go back and look through them..

Le Mans is mainly an excuse to go camping with friends and enjoy the atmosphere . But, I thought I'd use the opportunity to take the camera along and get some more practice. Agree that the fencing and layout is not very photographer friendly at all (unless you have a press pass).

Do you think a polarizer will make a big difference with the reflections?

ade - sorry, but i think the point about crops was they are too tight not the other way around!

see the following thread for a long debate abt polarizers (& some great m/sport shots)...

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/403675/0

i have a spare 82mm heliopan (top german brand) which i was abt to list on e-bay - £35 to a fellow brit m/sport enthusiastic FMer if interested.

same story for me at le mans - AF really a necessity to ensure anything in focus!

cheers - adrian

fair comment on the crops.. Personally, I prefer the closer photos rather than the a wider shot but these maybe fall in an inbetween no-mans land.. not close enough to be a close up but not wide enough to include the full car either (apart from the last one ) .. thanks, something to think about next time

The spare 82mm sounds like a deal - I'll e-mail you.. thanks !
