I like to use an inverted elliptical selection for my vignettes. I fill the selection with black, then blur the layer (deselect it first, of course) with Gaussian blur, radius=250. Then I change the blending mode to soft light and adjust the opacity as needed.
this is a border that I use (i've put it here for you to download.
How to get it on your photos:
Set the border size to match your photo (both lengths and PPI0
Copy the border and post ontop of your image
On the layer style in PS set the border layer to Screen
Flatten
hmm i never posted a picture in this forum, but i have an example too nothing special really, i just brushed away some elements and did a level /color correction. on print it looked great...
Very good info on this thread.
I'll contribute with a nice PS effect that was done on a friends wedding picture. Unfortunately I don't know how this was done ir if there is an action for that somewhere so I'll appreciate if anyone can explain how to do such an effect.

best thread i've read in FM so far! By Far, Tonight I'm going to combine and screenprint every page and host them for everone just to make sure we don't loose this thread. I've learned more reading this thread in the hour that it took me than I've learned in the past 3 years. Thank you so much.
Hello,
I am also a Canon 5D user, which I LOVE, and still trying to figure a few things out.
So I would like to ask you a question or two, and see if you might know the answer.
I notice when I open the EXIF information on a photo, it says: Resolution - 72ppi. And the camera is set the LARGE/Fine file setting for picture taking. Is this correct, or do you think I might be doing something wrong. It seems to me that the resolution should be about 200ppi, and yet my photos have plenty of detail.
Just one more question: Do you feel that the in-camera exposure meter is fairly accurate, or are you inclined to use a grey card or your hand-held light meter? I often have to move my exposure arrow to left of center to keep the shot from being over exposed.
Well thanks for your time and any help would be appreciated.
The 72ppi is the resolution for JPEG files. I always shoot in RAW on my 350D and I can then choose the resolution to export the files to in my RAW processing software (I use Capture 1 Pro).
Someone else may be able to fill you in on some of the other intricacies, but I would advise to shoot in RAW for better options with exposure/white balance etc and just generally with editing.
