i think a 10fps shutter is entirely possible... the fact that there are film models that do that shows you that it is possible. What is not yet possible commercially is a camera with the buffer to handle the 10fps. IMHO, the 1DmkI and 1DmkII were "downsized" unintentionally to a 8fps because the Digic II or whatever chip cannot handle the volume of information need to be processed.
So it is more than possible that the new Digic III that canon has lined up will be able to handle the 10FPS at whatever Megapixel and we might indeed have a 10FPS DSLR...
Good Grief... when will we stop with this obsession with FPS 30FPS Canon could start selling Motion Film Camera by then...
And why exactly (physics, please) should a 10fps pellicle have less light loss than 30fps or whatever über-speed you were talking about? Once the mirror is in place, it takes the same amount of light regardless how fast the shutter is flying behind it.
I don't really care either way, whether what you say is true or pure fabrication. But if it is true then you have way too many inconsistencies, and if it is pure fabrication I'd encourage you to have it proof read by someone who understands the components
Stanj, I was too eager to correct my initial mistake of 10 fps with 3 stop loss, which led to my mindless capitalizing of no 10 fps and no light loss. I didn't mean no light loss per se. *exasperated*
This is called the 'click before you proof-read' symptom. I'm sure some of us are afflicted with the malady.
I'm hereby breaking my non-disclosure agreement to inform all of you of what Canon will actually release at PMA.
The new 1-series camera will indeed be announced. After realizing that it had taken the wrong turn in sensor development, Canon is renewing its partnership with Matsushita/Panasonic and reviving the original 1D design - unchanged. Noise at high ISO is now officially considered artistic. Canon has also realized that they'll sell heck of a lot more NP-E3 batteries this way. The new 1D is going to be called 1Da - "a" stands for artistic.
I can't say much about the other cameras (3D or 30D), only the 1DS RS.
Pellicle mirror system, standard 5fps, and a possible 8fps using a cropped ration (ala Nikon's way), 18 mpx, DIGIC 3, slightly poorer build (subjective) than the 1Ds Mk2, priced at about $6,000+ (this is tentative).
Well, I'm always excited about what's going to come out during this time of the year anyway, whether I believe all the pre-release "leaks" or not. Thanks for the info...
With the case of digital, it's possible to automatically compensate for the light loss in a pellical mirror by automatically increasing/adjusting the ISO. (ie: you dial in ISO 100, but you actually get ISO160) The light loss is still there, but if the sensor pics is more sensitive to light, it won't matter. As long as noise is kept under control, I don't think people will mind. So, it's possible to have a pellical mirror with no effective light loss.
It's quite obvious that most (none?) of you guys have used a 1nRS.
You really cannot tell that there is any light loss through the system at all, everything works fine, big, bright VF (infinitly better than 90% of modern DSLRs) and if you set ISO200 on a hand-held meter and transfer the reading to the camera it works fine and gives the same correct exposures as the camera metering.
Dust sealing would be of enormous value on a DSLR with a pellicle mirror.
Being able to see ALL the time is wonderful when doing action or flash.
The full 10fps on the 1nRS is only achieved by setting the 'On' switch to RS, when you half depress the shutter button the shutter is cocked - and exposure metering and AF are LOCKED at that point. Therefore during the 10fps burst the AF will NOT track and light changes not adjusted for. I rarely use the 10fps RS mode anyway as the 6fps' normal' shooting rate is fine most of the time - to be honest since I went digital I rarely use the RS at all, can't even remember the last time I shot on film.....................

Argh guys, I apologise for the miscommunication between me and my friend. There's NO 10 FPS and the subsequent 3 stops of light loss.
It's just 5fps, and a possible 8fps with crop.
Boy you sure brought out some of the wierdos on this thread...ROTFI think we're past the full moon
Glad, Mike and Ortho? and a few other sane folks were there to appreciate what you were trying to do.....since you should have been studying tonight and not dealing with their BS
I was just wondering if you coud please do one favor for me now that you think you have the info straight...Could you please list again each camera with the specs you think it will have With all the changes it got kind of confusing by the 7th page
If you have any hint of the possible price range that would be appreciated.
Data1ore,
any information about a new AF system in that body or any other new stuff?
Most of the body has its origin in the 1V and the EOS3 (1998), so I would expect that in 2006 there would be at least an AF system that`s better than the one from 1998 (which in addition had eye-control).
Not that I consider the 1 series AF as bad, but it`s some years old and far from perfect.
