Note: Inside one of the many abandoned buildings/Bethlehem (Pennsylvania), city in Northampton and Lehigh counties, eastern Pennsylvania, on the Lehigh River. With nearby Allentown and Easton, Bethlehem forms an important industrial and manufacturing center. The city contained the headquarters of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, once one of the largest producers of steel in the United States, although the majority of its operations are carried out in other cities. In November 1995 the company closed the last operating blast furnace in its original plant, ending more than 100 years of continuous steel production in Bethlehem and laying off 1800 workers.
Neat shot, Chuck! Really conveys the desolation of the closed steel plant. I've played concerts in Bethlehem and Allentown so I know the area.

This is a very compelling image and composition in its own right, Chuck. What makes it so good is what it DOESN'T show. It uses the pattern of the broken windows against a field of blackness to invoke the rest of the scene's content in the viewer's imagination. (I guarantee that no two of us "see" quite the same scene.) This is really using photography far beyond its basic documentary facilities by forcing the viewer to become an active participant in creating the "image".

This is one of the more powerful photos that I have seen.
The balance of the elements and negative space and varieties of textures are perfect... head and shoulders above the other finalists.
