Are you willing to trade for the Sigma 30mm lens straight up?

I don't think that would be fair to me. I saw one of those lenses go for 340 shipped the other day. I want at least 500 in trade value, since the cheapest I've seen a 17-40 for is 525, and that's WAY cheaper than average. I'd do it if you tossed in your flash since I need one, but as it's the Super model, I'd understand if you wouldn't want to. I feel that would be a very even deal. I'd be taking about 30 bucks off my asking price for that.

I'd very much like to see your 30mm, though. I'm interested in it.

I didn't think you would, but I had to check to be sure. I don't have the 30mm yet, but if you were to say yes, I certainly wouldn't have hesitated to go get one. That said.... I think your asking price is very nice. If I had the cash today, I would have already jumped at it. One, I couldn't care less about the condition of the lens cap... lol. In my experience, a dinged up lens cap has no effect on my photos. Two, I really couldn't see the body damage to the lens in the picture... and I also looked at all of your sample raw files and they looked just fine to me. If you still have it next week, I may be talking to you again.

Thanks for your honesty.

I took the lens to B&H and Adorama today and neither of them could see anything wrong with it. In fact, B&H said there is no chance it could be affected based on the internal construction of the lens. He said the lens itself was still perfect.

After traipsing around Manhattan all day, I've decided that I've grown quite tired of defending this lens' condition to people when in fact it's optically and functionally mint. I went ahead and cashed it in at Adorama at a fantastic loss (about $100 less than my asking price) because none of you would believe photographic evidence. I was giving a good deal and was completely honest about everything and all I got was low-balling and distrust (no offense intended). I'm certainly not used to such shenanigans from a board of this stature.

I hope my future dealings on this board are less problematic. I hadn't expected to have a high-demand lens like this put me through the proverbial wringer when I should have no problems getting rid of it. I was able to get rid of the 28-80, which had a noticeable optical defect and hasn't been made since the 80s in a day but an optically perfect in-demand lens brings me so much grief.

Oh well. end of thread.
